Me Gusta Comer was an amazing find - an online map shows the town of Rionegro del Puente as having…read morea church, a bakery, and this restaurant. Population appears to be in the ballpark of 260 people. The town is located on the Sanabres pilgrim's route, and I'd consider this restaurant to be a godsend.
We did not see a printed dinner menu here. The chef described each course, which had two options to choose from. Sensibly, my wife and I decided to each try something different from each other for each course, so we got to sample everything being served that night.
First course - either tuna cake or a creamy artichoke cloud, each served with a slice of eggplant, pate, and strawberry jam.
Second course - handmade pasta with both pesto and a tomato gravy, or a creamy squash soup.
Third course - chicken or delightfully garlicy albondigas (meatballs)
On the side - water, a carafe of wine, bread, and after dinner, coffee and steamed milk
Dessert - either cheesecake or flan (both served with ice cream encased in a magic shell - type structure.
Liqueurs - 3 options brought to the table - a cream liqueur, an herb variety, and a clear aguardiente for those who want to end the meal with a bang.
The cost of all this was less than what I would expect to tip on an equivalent meal in the U.S.
If you're headed to or from Galicia, or, like me, happen to be staying within driving distance, this is an experience not to be missed. This world class spot also appears to serve drinks on the patio, for pilgrims passing through that don't need a full meal.
