My friends and I had a great lunch at El Picante. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the restaurant was clean and inviting.

This place had some interesting quirks but overall the food was good. We came here with some friends for Sunday lunch. They have a lunch menu they serve *every day* from 11am-3pm. We arrived at 2:30pm so it was good timing. I was craving some tacos, but the only lunch portion was 1 tacos plus rice and beans, so instead I went with the steak fajitas, which were good but a huge amount of food. I think my boyfriend got a spicy shrimp dish and liked it, and others in our party got burritos which they also enjoyed. You also get the standard complimentary chips and salsa here too. We all wanted to order margaritas but apparently on Sundays they can't serve liquor, which was odd ... not even an Ohio rule but some sort of county or city rule. However, they were still able to serve beer, so my boyfriend and our other friend ordered that. I also was a bit disappointed they didn't offer horchata, although they had Mexican-style juices on their menu. Overall I'd come back here when in town, but I have had better Mexican food elsewhere in Michigan, where I live. read more

Updating my review: Went here yesterday and had a great experience. The salsa was better than I remember, the service was better, and the food was great. I got the lunch seafood enchiladas which were great and actually had a fair amount of seafood for $9.99. My girlfriend got the lunch fajitas and she really liked them. Cleared the entire skillet. The service this time was great. Promptly were given chips and asked for drink orders. He came and checked on us and asked for refills anytime he saw a drink empty. He also accommodated my girlfriend In substituting the beans for an entra thing of guacamole salad at no additional cost as well as letting us know about their new deals (well i saw the sign outside and asked about it). We have been to this one and one of the other locations. It's the same menu at both locations. As your typical local Mexican restaurants go, El Picante is very good. My son and I always get the Burrito Barzon, which is fantastic and loaded with Chicken, Steak, Beef, and smothered in cheese. The pineapples and shrimp are a nice twist. We've tried a few other dishes as well. The Tacos Carne Asada and the Quesadilla Rellena will not disappoint. Overall, it's a good place to go for the typical local Mexican restaurant experience. Nothing wrong with that. :) The margaritas are out of a machine, so you might want to order a tequila sidecar if you want a little extra kick....or don't, whatever. Cute little place, but not seeming to social distance. All tables were in use, including back to back booths with no plexiglass partitions. Food was bland. I ordered one of their house margaritas and really enjoyed it. Plus they brought chips and salsa to the table shortly after we sat down. I loved the salsa. It had a great fresh taste and I could easily pick up on the fresh cilantro. Yum! Plus the chips came out warm which I really enjoyed. I ordered the enchiladas supremas (no sour cream). The plate came out piping hot and I was very pleased with my order. The chicken enchilada in particular was stuffed full of shredded chicken. I felt this was great quality, especially for the price. We (my wife and I) are definitely big fans of this place. The food is always solid and they have some of the best drinks of any Mexican place in cincy. We are definitely regulars here. There are currently two locations for el picante, the first being in Loveland and the second is this one in maineville. Ran by the same people and I'm pretty sure they have the exact same menu. If I had the choice between the two I would much rather go to this one because there are more places to sit. Unless you wanted to sit outside, the Loveland location has a pretty massive patio. Like I said, the food is pretty solid, no matter what you choose to get. As far as these types of Mexican restaurants are considered (not including nada), el picante is probably second when it comes to food, just behind el pueblo. I really enjoy this Mexican themed restaurant. To begin this review, the location is convenient to find, get in and out of, and get a great parking spot. When you walk up to the restaurant you notice an outside seating area. This is very nice in the summer. When you walk in, you immediately feel you are in Mexico. The lights are turned down a bit so you feel like you walked into something nice. The tables are very colorful and there are numerous seating areas including a full bar with TVs. My favorites are the specials and coupons. Kids eat for $.99 on Sundays. Be aware! Drinks are not included and are $2.00. So the $.99 kids meal will cost you 3 bucks! I also like the coupons that are placed in the mail. Most common coupon is $6 off dinner. This means I can order to entrees and save a little money. I really like the selection of burritos, enchiladas, and seafood dishes. I really enjoy the nachos before hand and chilled salsa. First time eating at this restaurant. They get big points for atmosphere! The festive decor and Mexican music immediately brought a smile to my face. They also have live mariachi bands on occasions. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. It took a little while to order as they were very busy, but our food came out really quick thereafter. The four of us were in and out in an hour. We tried the Chimichangas, taco salad bowl and dos tacos. Overall very good (beans and rice could have used more seasoning). There aren't a ton of non-fast food places on this side of town. Went with a large group. We called in advance since we needed a larger table. They didn't even ask our name. Table wasn't ready when husband arrived. No biggie we didn't mind. We got our chips and salsa right away. Chips were stale. one entree was ordered before anyone else even arrived because one had to leave early.
