It took awhile for the two bailiffs to process our group. They are responsible for maintaining security in the courtroom and ensuring that appropriate courtroom decorum is maintained. The judge reminded us of our qualifications and exemptions. Since I am the care taker for a teenager I was able to get an exemption and was released. It was mixed feeling as I would have liked to fulfill my civic duty. I was impressed by the judge and the entire process. I was excited to serve as I became American in El Paso eight years ago!

I did however start worrying that either A) i would be stuck on trial for weeks B) report late for my summons and be fined, only to be summoned again or C) look like a fool for being the only person bringing their lunch as the summons slip suggested. Well luckily only option C applied lol. And everything else was surprisingly smooth! Except for finding parking where these jackasses double park so as not to get their car scratched. The parking in their garage was paid for at least in exchange for your summons slip. It was a bit of a lag waiting to either be dismissed or assigned to a case. Report time was 9AM but we didnt get assigned until close to 930. Whatever i guess. We're on the Court's time, not ours. So we follow through with our assignment to one of the District Court rooms. Getting passed security was a long process since there was only 1 lane of putting your bag through the surveillance machine and to walk through the metal detector. There was 100s of us required to report. We were lucky to get to the court room just in time to call us to our assigned juror panel number. The juror check in room and the court room both smelled like vomit. That subtle acidic smell that lingered in the air. And I was getting super annoyed that we didnt get to leave until close to 2PM for lunch. At first it started off as only a short break by 115ish and they were trying to determine if it was lunch time or to continue with the voir dire. Thank god they couldnt even continue anymore with the case and discharged us all with our fatty $6 check. Guess ill hit up the Value Menu! Lol but thankfully no need since i had my lunch at the ready! It probably wasnt the worst case scenario.... see what i did there? Lol but im sure they could have planned out their agenda better.

It is hard to make a review on a County Government. My review is not for the County Government but…read morerather on my experience visiting the County Government Building. 1. There is a parking garage which I prefer to use any day when needing to visit. Their fees start at $2 after 10 minutes. They accept both credit card and cash. The garage safely supports vehicles up to 7 feet high. You may park outside on the street and use meters but during the week it gets complicated to find parking lot. 2. The security team is friendly and informative yet this does not mean they will let people/items pass by them. They will scan you and your belongings to ensure everyone is safe inside the building. 3. There is a cafeteria. 4. There is a library open to the public on the very last floor. 5. The place is large and clean. 6. The staff is very attentive and provide informative costumer service, but they are not attorneys nor your legal counselors. 7. Depending why you are visiting is where you will be going. Lower level are Child Support Services. Registry in the matters of Marriage, death, divorce is also in the lower level. Court mid levels, library and actual marriage upper level.

One's in the northeast and the other is in the lower valley going towards Socorro. Keep in mind, this is for people who were born in El Paso, Texas. A birth certificate can also be ordered online. It takes longer to receive in the mail. Anyway, everything happened quickly enough. I parked in a parking lot across the street for an hour. I still had time left over when I got out! There are security guards who check your purse, pockets, etc. when you walk in. Your purse, back pack, etc. goes into a machine. It's like the ones you see at an airport before boarding the plane. The county clerk's office is downstairs to your right. You fill out a form about the purpose of your visit and get in line. The clerk was helpful and efficient. The only thing is...my name is misspelled on my birth certificate. I didn't even know it until he pointed it out. This is the office you also come to if you need a death certificate. The birth certificates are $23 and the death certificates are $21. I wanted an additional copy but he said it would be $23 more. Online it says $4 for additional copies. Overall, the process wasn't bad.

What makes this the best out of the three? This port of entry has like 12 check points and more than half of those are "ready lanes" which makes it faster than the other bridges. The only bad thing about it, is that once in a while the US Border side decides to close half of all the lanes and then chaos comes into place. Pro tip #1: Before you cross the border, please do yourself a favor and get the visa card that allows you to use the ready lane. If you only have a passport, you'll have to use the other lanes that take at least twice the waiting time. Pro tip #2: There is a website online called "reporte de puentes" which gives you a better idea of how long the line is. Pro tip #3: Don't come here without snacks. You'll be here a while and you'll start craving the chips that people sell at the bridge. Pro tip #4: Use the bathroom before you get here. There are no restrooms and no way you can stop to use one. Final and most important tip: IF you have the visa card that I mentioned on tip #1, always use the lane on the left side. This is the longest one, but this lane covers half of the bridge so it moves faster.
