Delicious Breakfast Tacos and Amazing Fajita Tacos when I went back for lunch next day !! Thumbs up

Breakfast tacos have become a daily staple to the RGV....but unfortunately these tacos are not up to par. First...they have a drive through that doesn't work. I pulled up to the speaker where you might order...and nothing. So make sure you look at the menu and memorize what you want before pulling up to the window to place the order. I mentioned it to the worker and she said that yes, it's been broken a while. I kept the order simple...brisket with eggs on flour and then one brisket with papas a la mexicana on corn tortillas. Best word to describe my tacos...bland. I don't know how you can make brisket bland... brisket should be flavorful, tender, juicy... But this brisket was not. The brisket alone should shine and carry the taco...but you would never know it was brisket. Bland... There's plenty of delicious breakfast tacos out there...but they are elsewhere, not here. read more

Hmm, hoped for better. The meat was cut into tiny pieces and this did nothing for the toughness!!! :( El Papa Taco was clean and the waitress was nice and gave me time to study the menu which was on the wall and easy to see and read. She even let me know that breakfast items could be ordered. Truly disappointed because the cooked onions were so nicely sweetened! But the meat was such a let down due to its toughness-and the beef was cut into pieces less than .5"x.5" so pretty tiny, alas this didn't help. The corn tortillas were the right size and the cilantro was fairly fresh. So will I return? Yes, I'll give El Papa Taco another chance. Check back in about two weeks... El Papa Taco, don't let me down, because I will bring a guest to taste your wares. Is this the right spelling? lol read more

This place can be really good at times. Be careful the opening times can vary just depends on when they decide to open. Went a few times and it wasn't open even though the sign open at 7 am. This was not in days they are closed. Breakfast tacos are good. read more

Horrible!!! Have had a better experience during a root canal!! Gave this place 2 chances and they sucked at both!! There is No reason to wait over 20 min. for an order of nachos, chips with queso and 2 drinks thru the drive thru no less. read more

1st time here. 3.5 stars til I have the opportunity to come & try more. Went inside during non busy hours & ordered to-go. Customer service was excellent, very friendly & helpful! Wanted to try the nachos but, I had already had that for lunch elsewhere. Went w/a taco combo (5 corn tortilla tacos, potato, beans & drink for $10). They said I could pick 2 different meats if I wanted so I went w/sirloin & carnitas. Both meats, potato, beans & lemonade were all delicious. My only disappointment was how small the tacos were...cute but, not enough with my appetite! Not sure if the tacos ordered individually are that small but if they are then it's not worth it to buy 'em. read more

The food here is good, but with one major caveat: You often will not receive what you actually ordered. Example: On a recent Sunday, I ordered four egg, bean, and cheese breakfast tacos and requested green sauce only. Instead, the order was rung up as five tacos. When I pointed out the error after seeing the receipt, I was told the only way to correct it would be to charge my bank card again for the correct number of tacos and refund the previous transaction, which could take several days to be reflected in my bank account. Then, when I got home with my tacos, the first thing I noticed was that all the sauces were red sauce. There was none of the green sauce I had requested. Then, when I began unwrapping the tacos, I found that they were all bean and cheese. No eggs. So, if you're keeping score, so far we have: 1) Wrong number of tacos 2) Wrong kind of sauce 3) Wrong taco filling At this point I called Papa Taco to complain, politely, and ask how they would make it right. I was told to return to the store the next morning to receive my correct order at no additional charge. OK. I was not able to return to Papa Taco until two days later. When I did, the same young woman who previously had taken my order -- and with whom I spoke on the phone -- was on duty. I briefly explained why I was there, she consulted a piece of paper where she apparently had made some notes, and then she went about getting the tacos. When I got home and unwrapped the four tacos, I found -- again -- that they were not what I expected. Instead of four egg, bean, and cheese tacos with flour tortillas, I'd been given two egg and bacon tacos in flour tortillas and two bean and cheese tacos in corn tortillas. So even my free "make it right" order was botched. I wish I knew why preparing a simple order of breakfast tacos is so complicated. I can't even begin to guess at an explanation. So, be forewarned: If you order breakfast tacos at Papa Taco, they'll probably be tasty. But there's a good chance they won't be what you ordered. It's "dealer's choice" at Papa Taco. read more

Got a tasty and satisfying meal here! My companion had tacos (he liked them), and I had something I'd never seen before, an absolutely giant baked potato. It comes with butter, sour cream, a lot of cheese, and your choice of meat. I had the carnitas with it, and that was fabulous. It was a great combo with the potato, but the carnitas themselves were a little smokey tasting and pretty much the best I've had. read more

Omg y'all, just an update. We've been here a couple of times since my initial review and it is still sooooo good. The meats are perfectly cooked and the portion amounts for the price is great. Visiting from out of town and this place was right down the road from my hotel. Stoped by to get some breakfast and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Ordered a barbacoa and a machacado/egg taco and these were seriously delicious tacos! Service is friendly and quick and the food is brought out hot and tasty. (Make sure you apply plenty of that green salsa)I'm glad I don't live here because I would have a hard time not swinging by everyday.
