Americans disregarded in favor of locals, steak cooked poorly on either side of the pendulum (ordered medium rare, overdone on first pass, wayyy too rare on second pass). While apps were great and staff were apologetic and nice, far too much of a disappointment in the end. Watched tables of locals get served vastly quicker than us, despite getting seated later and ordering similar. Manager did comp and apologize in the end, but a night wasted overall. read more

We have struggled (and not succeeded to find any restaurant in Bordeaux that came anywhere close to our expectations - but when Mrs G found this Argentinian restaurant we thought that we had struck gold. We ordered empanadas (the best part - tasty but small) beef croquettes (disappointing), Mrs G ordered a fish dish which was good she said, for me a Margarita (good but so small compared to the US sadly) and a beef pie (big mistake). Things get lost in translation - it was actually the same (I think) shredded beef as in the croquettes (much, not at all special) and covered in mashed potato. I wasn't enjoying it and pouring on black pepper to get some flavor - but the worst part was when a found a long (6 inches or so) curly black hair entwined with the shredded beef - yikes!! Our server was good all along and was as shocked as me to see the hair and gave a dirty look to the kitchen (open). She apologized, I didn't want anything else to eat and she did the right thing taking it off the bill. Retains 3 stars because of her. read more

Had a beautiful dinner this evening at El Nacional. We arrived about 7:20 and they kindly seated us even though they didn't open for another 10 minutes. We were led upstairs to a beautiful seating area that overlooks the Halle des Chartrons. Our server was Karine and she was very welcoming and kind in assisting us given our limited French. She took our order and promptly returned with our sparkling water, wine and delicious bread! A while later our meal arrived and it was stupendous! The ribeye was prepared to perfection as was the skirt steak. Both were served with a cute iron skillet of mashed potatoes. The restaurant quickly filled up and by the time we left every table was full! I'd suggest making a reservation so that you're assured seating. read more
