I could swear I already reviewed Marisqueria Tony but Yelps tells me I never finished the draft…read more Tony has great seafood tapas plus lovely service in a pretty spartan ambience. First you need to know that there is no longer a Tony at Tony's. He founded the restaurant and later sold it to the current owner. And if you don't speak Spanish you need to know that "mariscos" means "shellfish." A marisqueria is a restaurant that specializes in shellfish. And that's a problem for us foreigners. Even if you speak fluent Spanish, you are unlikely to know the names for the varieties of oysters, clams, shrimp, and lobster at Tony's. The bartender/manager had them displayed beautifully behind a glass counter. So after we finished our first vermut and a plate of anchovies, I stood at the counter and had the bartender explain each name and which he preferred. This was three months ago and my memory might not be perfect but I remember we started with oysters, followed by razor claims, a variety of shrimp called "carabineros," and finished with beautiful, small steaks highly recommended by the bartender. There were some additional drinks as well. By the time we left, the restaurant was filling up with families. Thanks to our AirBNB host for recommending Marisquería Tony. We never would have found it otherwise. Note: don't be put off by the decor and ambience at Tonys. It is larger than but still reminiscent of your grandmother's kitchen -- very plain.
