I asked a Venezuelan acquaintance where to get the best arepas in the city and she said this was the spot to go to! Although they didn't have arepas once I got there (sadness), I decided to take it as a culinary opportunity to try some Venezuelan food I haven't tried before. It did not disappoint!
We started off with tamarind and guanábana (similar to chirimoya) juice. It hit the spot on that hot evening.
Yolanda, the sweet and friendly woman who attended us (probably the owner?), explained all of the dishes they had that day and pointed out the flavors that might be out of the ordinary for most Chileans. We're up for anything of course!
We tried the patacon, fried plantain with shredded beef and salad, and the cachapa, a thin sweet corn dough filled with a healthy portion of cheese and pork. Both were very flavorful, but the patacon was my favorite - hardy beef balanced by lettuce and cheese with crunchy and soft textures.
Yolanda told us about their Venezuelan tamales, and we took some to go!
There's so much more to try, including their cafe options, and I'm hoping to try their highly recommend arepas. read more
