We…read moresplit a half cheese platter, a tortos sampler and the clams fabada between two of us and it was plenty of food. The cheese platter was still generous and filling. The tortos (small corn cakes) sampler were my favorite! The corn cakes (think small tortillas but thicker) were topped with morcilla, chorizo and guacamole, they were the perfect handheld food to go along with sidra. The clam fabada was a hearty dish but definitely a bit lighter than the traditional version.

For dinner, we had a paella-like dish with rice, lobster and clams that was out of this world. We also had cod, which was succulent and served over a bed of mashed potatoes with parsley. Scrumptious. Ambiance was relaxed but professional. I don't drink wine, but I could see they were aerating the wine by pouring from high above and not over serving the wine. Important for some, I suppose. Some of the more exciting dishes are a little pricey, but for me it was well worth it in terms of food and service quality. They also had some lower price alternatives that were probably quite good as well.

It was probably the most Spanish thing we did....drinking standing at the bar, eating tapas, and GASP, I decided that when in Rome I should do as the Romans, and so I ate some DELICIOUS mussels and something pate-like called Cabracho, which google says is scorpion fish. What the heck, it was delicious. This place was pretty packed, and had a nice comfortable vibe, right off of the Plaza Mayor. I saw some folks that had descended on Gijon for the same festival that we had, and a lot of Spanish folk that were either from there, or visiting from somewhere nearby. All in all it was a great experience that I highly recommend repeating.
