Rusty Spur Cafe - My mind cannot reconcile what people do when they use the restroom. It makes me wonder about the sanitation... I'm perplexed.

Alright, so here it goes. As new residents of the area, my husband and I decided to pop in here…read morebecause, for whatever reason, their waffles with vanilla pudding appealed to me as a "cheat meal." The waffle came with bacon, sausage, or ham, but dietary restrictions/religious reasons (whatever you want to say) I asked for eggs. Now, I'll get back to that. My husband ordered the chilaquiles and, the same goes, opted for eggs. His dish was pretty dang tasty. It had quite a bit of heat, so I tapped out after one bite but not bad at all. My waffles were amazing, and the vanilla pudding was delectable. My husband warned me to do the half order, but I didn't listen, and trust me, I regretted it because the portions are HUGE. Now, our meals should have been $9.50 a piece. We knew upfront about their credit card processing fee of $2.50, so no problem. What kills us about the tab was the offer of a substitution for the bacon, sausage or ham was an upcharge of $5.00 ($2.50 for my husband's meal and $2.50 for mine); however, it was not disclosed to us. There are two things that boggle my mind with this... ONE: I find it interesting we are being upcharged for the eggs when the eggs are cheaper than the meat. TWO: Being a devout religious community, I find it interesting that there isn't an option for an alternative when it comes to pork. It goes to show you that at the end of the day, devout or not, if there is money to be made... religious conviction is out the door. Also, I found it really strange that you cannot flush toilet paper. Being from California, I found this odd, and it really posed so many questions, but I figured I probably shouldn't go down that rabbit hole. Oh, and our waitress was Nancy. She was very friendly and her service was good.

Seriously the BEST place I have been to in Texas. They truly deserve their "Authentic Mexican Food"…read moresign out front. The restaurant is decorated nicely with Mexico's infamous bright colors. The waitress was absolutely amazing. She answered our questions and even gave suggestions. Rice and Beans: its difficult to find a GOOD place here in Texas with retried beans that don't taste like they're coming from a pre-made can/bag. They had a nice consistency and booming with flavor. The rice was incredible! Most places fail with the rice because they're over salted, mushy, or undercooked. T.J.'s rice was fluffy and nice orange color. Truly authentic Mexicano rice. I had the asada tacos which were really good. The meat wasn't tough to chew. The only thing I didn't like was the fact the tacos weren't individually put on the plate. They laid out four of the double stacked tortillas almost like a deck of cards and poured the meat across. I had to basically prepare the tacos myself. They also had a lot of grilled onions, but next time (if I'm ever in this part of Texas again) I know to ask for easy onion. The only thing they could work on is their tamales. The masa tasted almost sweet, too sweet for a meat filled tamale. Overall: Highly recommend! Service: A+ Food Quality: A Ambiance: A+

The first time, they wouldn't even discount the bill even though he had one bite. LITERALLY! The second time, the slightly discounted the bill. They were more concerned with us paying than getting him the an epi pen in the car.
