Eating here could be described as hit and miss, but since there are not many chances for Egyptian cuisine in Helsinki (or in Finland), you should try this.
I can recommend the hot beef served in clay pot - if you are a fan of REAL spicy fair. Made me sweat and my stomach was burning still couple hours later. 4 pints of beer couldn't help. But that is exactly how it should be, since the owner warned me that it might be little bit too hot for a westerner. (I dislike those restaurants that claim to serve spicy food but don't even no what that means. Owner of El Karim does and I respect him for that.)
Along with egyptian specialities there are some pizzas, steaks and kebabs in the menu. They are at best 'ok', so try some egyptian instead. Owner is a pleasant family man and his wife and couple of kids seem to be always hanging around. That gives the restaurant nice home-like egyptian feel, even though the restaurant generally looks like any another crappy Finnish suburban kebab-pizzeria. read more
