At the instruction of one of the hosts, we chose a bottle of wine from the shelves along the wall and took it to the bar where it was opened and glasses were poured from it for us. Not only is the wine selection very broad, but the prices are exceptional - only a little more than you'd pay if you were buying the wine directly from a supermarket! To pair with the excellent wine, we chose from the menu of simple tapas (ham, bread, olives, cheese, etc.). While the food is simple, the atmosphere, the friendly service, and the quality of the wine and food more than make up for it. Highly recommended!

We came for lunch on a Tuesday, and unlike many other restaurants we dined at during our trip to Europe, this one had it's doors closed and we had to ring to be let in. Once in, I was slightly surprised at how elegant the place was. We were looking for a more casual lunch and was worried it may cost more than we had hoped to spend. Thankfully the entire lunch cost us only 41 euros, and that included two 4-course meals and a class of wine for myself and my partner. I was so glad we decided on this restaurant because the meal was fantastic. Each dish was better than the last. Lunch menu is decided, so 17.50 euros gets you an appetizer, entree, main course, and a dessert. For our appetizer we had the croquettes. It was a small portion, one croquette each, but it was so good. The filling melted inside your mouth, and the presentation was beautiful. Next, we had the ceviche. Again, it was incredible. Better than the croquettes, if that was possible. After that we had the steak, it also was delicious! The portion was perfect as well, leaving enough room for dessert. We chose the cheesecake, and their preparation was not like a regular cheesecake - instead it was almost a pudding with crust at the bottom. It was so tasty that I wish I was eating it again. The staff was very friendly to us Americans and we would definitely dine here again when we return - it was hands down the best meal of the entire trip.

Before being introduced to this place, I had walked past it a million times without even noticing it. I always thought it was just a shop and didn't realise there was a small bar tucked away inside. What a joy to finally discover this hidden jewel! Now that I know what's inside, I come here to keep a Spanish tradition alive known as "La Hora del Vermut" (Vermouth Time). It takes place just before lunch and serves to whet your appetite before lunch, basically an aperitif! It may be known as Vermouth Time but you can drink whatever you like: beer, wine, soft drink etc. However, in this bar it is traditional to take advantage of their homemade vermouth (vermut casero) that goes for 1€ a glass. It goes down extremely well and you can't help going for multiple rounds! Also, apart from getting rather inebriated on premises you can also take some back with you. The traditional method is to come loaded with an empty bottle to be filled up but if you don't have one, they can provide you with one instead. It's a joy to see places that still maintain these old traditions; I remember back in the days being sent to our local bodega to get wine bottles topped up even before I was of legal age to drink alcohol... If you want to feel like a proper local, cross the river from the main part of town and venture into this neighbourhood with its own distinctive vibe and help us maintain these traditions well and truly alive and vibrant! Although, honestly, we are doing quite a good job of it already...
