Their queso paired with the chips and salsa was such a great starter. Their service was fast and friendly. We went for dinner and it was busy, but the food still came out quick and hot. They put cheese sauce on their California Burrito, which had so much beef inside. This was like cuts of steak too (not ground beef) and it was so good, full of flavor, no fat, one of the best I have had. The place is big and open i side with plenty of seating. Prices are great and cannot wait to get back down to Joplin to try this place again.

Let me caveat this review with - we were in town from LA (where authentic Mexican spots are…read moreeverywhere) visiting family, and I'm married to a Mexican. I specifically wanted Tex-Mex Mexican food, and this place hit the spot. It's not authentic Mexican food lol, but it's delicious! The prices were so good for the portions and quality. My toddler loved the robot that brought some of the food out. The salsa was good and the chips were fresh. The queso on everything was obvi my fav part (and is the most non-Mexican part of it all). The margarita tower was insane! It was around $32 and we got the mango one. I lost count of how many it poured, and we had 5 adults drinking on it, yet didn't finish it. We got at least 9 full cups out of it and there were 2-3 left when we left. If you're in the mood for some good Tex-Mex that's super cheap with big portions, this is your spot.

Whether that be because of staff changing, different ingredients, a mistimed visit to this new location, or something else entirely, I'm not sure. The service was absolutely fantastic, but the food was just okay. My chile con queso was thin and you need to eat a lot to get the flavor. I liked it, but I wouldn't come back for it. I used to really love this appetizer, to the point I would come to Maria's just to order this! The chicken quesadilla was good. A fair amount of meat inside, juicy, and enough cheese. I wish you could get sour cream put in rather than have it on the side. The first burrito that was brought out was cold but they made us a new one with no issues. The shrimp cocktail was really strange and too sweet. It was mostly liquid with several small shrimp and chunks of avocado floating in it. The botana platter was an interesting sampler. The queso blanco on it was good and thicker than the chile con queso. The taquitos were good. The only problem is that everything cools so quickly that you're bound to be eating something cold eventually. Overall an okay experience. Nothing crazy. I really, really miss their old chile con queso!!

Its located in an old burger chain, I think a former Burger King not that this matters. Its completely rebuild and looks nothing like a burger joint anymore. We have been in several times, (actually I've written a Yelp before but it has disappeared). And each time we have been impressed. There are so many Mexican restaurants in Joplin of very style and price point. Some offer really good interiors like its a theme part or movie set. Some are as simple as can be with authentic menu's and no effort to be fancy or touristy. Speedy is somewhere in-between. Some of the menu is typical of many American-Mex chains only better prepared. Then again some menu items are normally only found at authentic Tex-Mex, roadside and Southwestern style Mexican based in real family recipes and flavors you'd find south of the boarder. There is a small bar, service is friendly and prompt and the bright decor is refreshing.
