I really didn't think we could find quality Mexican food in this relatively small German city, but…read moreas a Tex-Mex craving American, let me tell you, you will not be disappointed. The yummily messy flavor profiles, the variety of proteins (beef, mushrooms, chicken), the presentation, the heading portions - it was all here. Your cravings will be satisfied. Service was fast, and some of the cooks only spoke Spanish (no English or German), which tells you how authentic it is! Worth walking a bit from the S-Bahn to find. We ate inside because the sidewalk benches were full of lingering patrons.

You can order and prepay online by scanning a QR code on a buzzer which will alert you to your order being ready. I really liked the food but the online menu and ordering process wasn't ideal, especially if you are unfamiliar with the menu. I maybe would have had a better experience with the indoor large screen ordering system (like the kind they have at fast food restaurants). I am a bit old fashioned and like to order directly and ask questions if needed.

They serve a mean margarita and a FANTASTIC burrito- it's big too! Their other offers are also tasty- fish and vegetarian tacos, soup, veggie platter. All winners. I love that they have bottles of hot sauce for the tables- that's amazing. I love you La Taqueria. And when you open again, I'll be there for you. Kisses.

And the burritos don't have rice in them. The chips and salsas were great too. Pineapple sour beer was excellent also. Girlfriend loved the red cabbage, maybe a little anachronistic for Mexican, but tasty! Super cool ambiance with all kinds of Mexican images (heavy on the Frida khalo I'll say though). Service was fine, prices were fine by Swiss standards (about $30 USD for a burrito with red cabbage and chips or 3 tacos with no sides). A 750 ml pitcher of margaritas for $80 USD was a bridge too far though. ;)

The reviews comparing this to chipotle must be talking about the burrito building experience and…read morenothing else. This is not chipotle nor is it Mexican or even New Mexican. It's not Texmex. As a former New Mexico resident I'm perpetually disappointed in the Mexican offerings here in Germany. Based on the reviews, the line out the door, and the ambiance of the restaurant, I was certain I found a diamond in the rough. I was wrong. While it's confusing, it is even more baffling to have all the right pieces and still be bland and nothing like Mexican food. Tortilla, meat, beans, cheese, and rice do not a burrito make. Imagine I asked you what is in a cookie, and you told me, "flour, sugar, butter, chocolate chips." Then, I hand you a literal pile of flour, sugar, butter, and chocolate chips. That's what a burrito is like here. All the right ingredients and intention without the desired results. While this place is walking distance from my apt I think I'll stick to making my own burritos at home.
