Located in Salem Indiana is a great little Mexican restaurant called El Caminos! Prompt greet at the door, immediately seated at our table with ten guests. Chips and salsa on the table as the server took our drink order. The chips were fresh and the salsa was okay. We ordered our food, I had the burrito plate, it was fat and tasty and the presentation was very nice. The rest of the the guests ordered fajitas tacos and short ribs. No one complained! It was a very nice experience and I definitely recommend eating there. read more

I ordered a chipotle chicken quesadilla and this is what showed up. It looks more like a burrito that fell on the floor. The chicken was bland along with sauce on top. The waiter/host couldn't be bothered to refill our drinks. The serve was subpar. The restaurant when you first walk has an odor of urine. We were the only patrons in the restaurant at 3:00. I guess I shouldn't go to Indiana for Mexican food. This place is definitely a pass on our next visit. Do yourself a favor and save your money and go someplace else to eat. To be fair, I've only ever been to El Camino's twice, but that's enough for me. The first time was years ago, but it was midday, empty, and my group had a pretty okay experience. This last time, a couple weeks ago, was, frankly, disappointing. It was a little busier, so I was willing to have to wait a bit. Boyfriend and I are seated. 30 minutes go by before someone (not our waitress) stops by and says "hey, have you all got drinks?" We had not. We didn't have silverware, either. We finally get drinks, chips, salsa, and complimentary queso for having to wait so long. We still have not seen our waitress. 15 more minutes go by before she shows up to apologize for the wait; apparently there was a big order that was holding up the kitchen (how... does that affect your ability to check in on us?). Anyway, everything is fine and we get our order in. We wait for probably another 30-45 minutes to get our food. At this point, neither of us want to be here, we've been waiting over an hour. We've only gotten refills once, our drinks were empty for the majority of our meal. Food comes out, mine (chicken cheesy rice) is pretty good! Awesome, in fact! Boyfriends burrito? Not so much. Tortilla was soggy, pasty, and just difficult to get down. He said the meat inside was pretty good, though. Overall, I would not suggest El Camino's as the place to go in Salem for Mexican food. My boyfriend straight up refuses to walk in again, which I understand. Just... don't waste your time. read more

If you spend the day hiking, the rule is, you get tacos after. That is just how it works. After doing a trail in the area, on our way back to Louisville, we happened upon El Camino's. It was mid afternoon, so there were very few people out. WE were seated quickly and got some nice, cold water and margaritas. They have a large menu so it was not difficult to find something you'll like. Our food was fast and fresh and the waitress made sure our chips never emptied. If you are like us and need tacos after hiking, this is a great place to stop. Even if you haven't gone hiking, this is still a great place to stop. read more

We go here often. Cheyenne is our favorite waitress there. Some of the guys can be overly busy. She's great. Food is always amazing. Comes out fast and hot. Made when we order. There's daily specials. Wednesday's is .85 lime margaritas...potent little drinks for sure. Delicious. Only complaint is that you always have to flag someone down to get more chips and salsa. White queso is amazing. The combos are the way to go if you like variety. Highly recommend the California burrito and the Texas Special. read more

The atmosphere is awesome. It's like walking into a border town. The masonry is authentic. It has a full bar. And the Mexican music is overhead making it feel like you're actually enjoying some tacos in Mexico. I had the street tacos today. I drizzled the lime juice over them and splashed them with the hot sauce. The tortillas were fresh and perfect. The overall experience was great. If you want a real Mexican experience this place has the feel and culture of Mexico. read more

My husband and I went on a Saturday, around noon. After being seated, we were handed a menu. Everything on the menu had gone up at least two or three dollars. We don't come here very often, so I said lets just go ahead and order. I ordered a grilled chicken salad and my husband ordered a beef taco salad. The order came and my order was fine. My husband's beef taco salad had a tablespoon of meat to his lettuce. He was very upset. For the price that we paid for this meal, there should have been more meat. The servers were being loud and obnoxious. We won't be returning anytime soon. read more

All the other reviews say that the food is authentic and the place is well decorated and looks as though it would be a pleasant experience. However the warning signs came with the salsa which was very liquidy with no chucks of tomato or red onion and tasted like bland tomato sauce. Next was the queso, or as our waiter called it "cheese sauce" which looked and tasted of melted American cheese. We asked for a spicier salsa, and we were brought another bowl of tomato sauce that had plenty of heat, but no flavor. Two of our party got a taco salad, and when they got to the bottom of it, a half a cup of water sat on the bottom of the plate. My fajitas were sub-par, reminding me of school cafeteria food. My food came with guacamole which was also a liquid, must be a running theme in this restaurant, and almost made me gag when I tasted it. read more

This place was pretty good. We went on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy. They got our food out to us quickly and the server was very nice. The food was hot and rather tasty. Took off a star because we waited around ~10 minutes just to pay. The hostess disappeared and the servers didn't know how or weren't allowed to cash us out. They ran around frantically looking for said hostess before another staff member finally just took care of us. Didn't leave a good first impression of their professionalism. read more

Very good food, great waiter, Great margaritas! Mexican decor a little cheesy, but its not my house! Chile Rellano was excellent, fresh poblanos, stuffed with great cheese. Steak Tacos were very good, fiery sauce, pork enchiladas verde very good, enough for 2 meals! We'll be back next time we're in Salem read more

The food is always fresh and delicious, the portions are very generous, staff is always helpful explaining dishes and very polite and attentive and the prices are more than fair. if I could afford to eat out every single day it would be here !! read more

My family and I visited this place over the summer and it was amazing!!! I couldn't wait to come back. We don't live near but play a lot of sports in the surrounding areas. We got the opportunity to return last Sunday late afternoon and I cannot believe how disappointing it was. From the service to the food quality. It was terrible!!! Our food was lukewarm at best, food was tasteless from the chips to the queso to our entrees. To add insult to injury, I invited a couple other families to join us and the quality and service was embarrassing to say the least. One family arrived before we did and was told the restaurant was unable to accommodate our party without knowing the exact number because they were too busy. There were two other parties of maybe 12-16 each plus three to four other tables. One of the parties left before we ordered so I'm not sure what the problem was as far as accommodating our group of ten to twelve. We will not be returning, sadly. read more

So I called in order tonight to El Camino's in Salem Indiana at about 8:10 p.m. while driving home from work at well first the guy tells me it'll be about 10 minutes at about 8:30 I get to El Camino's and I walk in and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about there's a young teenage boy and a teenage girl and a Spanish lady the young boy goes and gets the Spanish-speaking man who I spoke to you on the phone they walk back and forth from the kitchen two or three times and then come up and act like they don't know that I called in an order then the Spanish guy says what did you order and I repeat my order then he says what we can fix it for you now and I said well I guess that'll be okay I said why is it not ready did you you know what happened to my order and he said they don't have the order did I call a different El Caminos I said well there's only one El Camino's in Salem Indiana and he said well maybe you called a different restaurant and I said you know what I'm just going to go ahead and go just just forget it and as I'm walking to the door he says something smart about how I must have called a different El Camino's so I walk out to the car and get my cell phone and while looking in the window from the parking lot from my car I call and the young American Girl answers and says El Caminos and I said where you located and she hung up on me, hung up the phone. why? I just want to say it took everything in my being to not walk back in that restaurant because I have more class than they do. I didn't expect my meal to be free I just wanted him to say hey we're sorry we didn't put it in we messed up. but they wouldn't admit that they messed up. instead they lied and try to make it seem like I called the wrong place and then hung up on me. what kind of way is this to do business? so I'm done preaching, just want to say I will never eat at this restaurant again and I will tell every single person I know not to eat there and how poorly I was treated .I tried to post this on the El Camino website and on Facebook and they would not post it. El Camino's in Salem IN, we went on a Saturday(26th) round 530pm place was crowded no waiting area (2 small seats) that could've come from munchkin land.We were seated table was nice and clean,our waitress pleasant. She brought our chips and salsa (was runny nothing to it you would consider salsa, the chips were bland with no taste. Food came after what seemed an eternity,food was hot but no where of what its cracked up to be I ordered the 6 pack combo when asked why I had only received 5 parts of the combo was informed that the 6th part was actually a house salad??, I thought it was the toppings for the various parts of the combo?? The house margarita was ok but no where 16oz would I recommend this place to anyone no, not at this time,given its a new set up but its a far cry from all the hype,maybe in 6 months or so given a chance to get the kinks out we might try it again but unlikely think we'll stick to Porta Vallarta in Scottsburg and new albany read more
