I've been to Vallarta many times, but was really surprised by this little gem across from the Versalles neighborhood. Specializing in cooked and raw seafood with a toppings bar and great retro music pumping out the speakers. The boulevard in Vallarta is lined with businesses making it hard to know where to stop. Cameron express is worth it! I'll be back tomorrow, and the next day...

You cannot miss this place, it's right between Office Depot and Oxxo. The BEST "street" seafood spot on the hotel zone of Puerto Vallarta-Camaron Express. No other. My traveling group and I discovered this place while we were exploring shops nearby our resort. Although, our resort offered all-inclusive food and drinks, we still had to get our seafood fix at Cameron Express. I believe it was about 5 years ago when the place was pretty much a gazebo with an extended area for tables and chairs, an open dining concept (no windows). Camaron Express has evolved since then. We were hooked once we tried their ceviches. My personal favorites are still the shrimp ceviche and tuna tower. Fresh seafood, delectable, perfectly seasoned, with right amount of lemon to taste. Oh, can't forget, they're generously portioned. I call their ceviche "meaty" (shrimp and tuna cuts) as there are others places that load up cucumbers and tomatoes to give their dish more volume. On top of that, charge a high amount. Unbelievable. At Camaron Express, you can always expect good taste, quality, and affordable seafood. Hands down. Don't forget to check out their condiments cart, a variety of salsas, etc. And, if thirsty for something fruity, try their bomb ass Fresca drinks. No complaints here. Now for some other stuff. So while I'm here glorifying the food at Cameron Express, don't expect 5 star, top notch servers. Whether it be a language barrier or not, the servers, are just servers...to serve your meals and beverages. Nothing to highlight, brag about or extra ordinary. Although all of my encounters have been positive experiences, there's just something missing in their workmanship. They're not terrible, they're just missing that thing. The son's owner, on the other hand, "talks" and is friendly. Lastly, expect busy, especially during peak hours. If you don't get a seat right away. nothing wrong with eating while standing... at the gazebo area. Dislike: the place closes at 8pm Definitely a must-try seafood place

The ceviche was super fresh and absolutely delicious. I'm very picky with my breaded shrimp tacos and they did not disappoint; the picture shows the taco after adding my choice of toppings, they will not be served like that (you can customize your taco to your liking from their condiment bar). We sat on some barstools facing out the restaurant and were greeted with a beautiful view of the tropical mountain ranges of Vallarta (should've snapped a picture!). The waiters were very attentive and friendly, the food was brought out in less than 5 minutes. Muchisimas gracias a los trabajores de El Camaron Express! Muy amables todos (:

An unpretentious front packed at 3:30 PM with locals getting off work. We sat at the bar because there was not a table to be had. We ordered the grilled ( a la plancha) and fried shrimp tacos. The salad bar had tasty toppings from Cole slaw to salad with pineapple in it. The salsas range from mild to extreme. Legit hot sauces and limes to add onto the tacos. Horchata was the Agua Fresa of the day. Mexican Coke tastes like the Coke of my childhood before Coca Cola changed the mixture in the United States. Fresh shrimp and next time I will try the ceviche. Do not overlook this "fast food" restaurant.

First local place we tried after arriving at our resort up the block. We initially walked by and the smell was enticing. After choosing to stay local, we decided to head back here. I'm so happy we did! It's a small local place but service is quick and staff were so kind and friendly. I over did myself by how much I ate, but I was so excited to have real authentic food and flavor. There menu is simple and prices very reasonable. The salad bar consists of different toppings for your tacos but beware, that pineapple and red onion slaw is extremely spicy. The pineapples were soaked with habanero peppers.I did not know this and found out the hard way. The flavor of the food is excellent and I'm think I may go back before I leave. I had the grilled fish tacos. I ordered the fried shrimp tacos but quickly discovered, I prefer grilled. My total bill came up to 490 pesos (Around $25). That included 2 waters, 3 orders of tacos, 2 orders of ceviche, and an extra order of avocado. I enjoyed my experience here and I'm grateful for the local places.

We didn't have lunch on our flight to PV, so after getting checked into our resort, we set out to find the closest shrimp and fish tacos for my hungry family. This place is fantastic! The staff was friendly and the restaurant has very laid back vibes. It's right in the street with a walk up counter and a seating area. We had shrimp tacos, fish tacos, chips and guacamole, and agua fresca. It was all freshly made and absolutely delicious! The guacamole had a lot of lime juice and chunks of avocado, not overly mashed, which I loved! A great lunch/early dinner spot for a quick bite for a good price!

Little street taco place along the main avenue. Great casual outside place to stop for a snack or meal along the boulevard. Friendly attentive staff. Had the World Cup on the TV while i had an amazing shrimp taco and a shrimp torta banada, both volcano style (covered in sauce). Sauce was tasty and not overly spicy, very flavorful. Lots of shrimp in the dishes. Delicious and would definitely recommend stopping by for your shrimp needs!

I only wish that took a picture! This place rocks. We had fish and shrimp tacos along with ceviches. The condiment bar was awesomeThe wait staff was fantastic and made sure that we did over order, which we were about too. Nothing pretty or special about ambiance, but the food was so freaking good!

After being extremely disappointed with the "ceviche" at my all-inclusive resort, I knew I had to explore outside of my hotel to enjoy some authentic cuisine. This place is it! It's an open-spaced, casual set up with a street-side bar and small dining area. I couldn't help but notice that all of the patrons were local - not a single tourist in sight - that's how you know it's the real deal :) Ordered a large container of ceviche de pescado. It was $200 pesos/$10 USD. What a great value... it was a very generous portion! They filled the container to the brim and added sliced avocado on the top before they sealed it. It also included 2 salsas, a large bag of tostadas, and a few small packages of saltine crackers. The flavors were outstanding; fresh ingredients, good-quality, and authentic! Good customer service. I arrived within 2 hours before closing, and they were really busy. The waitress was quick and efficient. Final Thoughts? This will not be my last visit. I look forward to trying the other items when I come back to visit Puerto Vallarta. Perhaps some grilled fish tacos, ceviche de pulpo? yummmm :)

Express? Hardly! Service is not particular swift even when they aren't "swamped" - but people like this place enough to stand in line to get a table. Faster sometimes is getting a seat at the "bar" - which is really just a narrow counter on the outside edge of the restaurant. Like other places I have gone, this one has raised prices 10 pesos since last year. That might not seem much, but it is the same as one-way local bus fare to almost anywhere (and buses have not raised their prices), so locals probably notice. There is also a bigger nicer Camarón Express located behind the Cinemex in Plaza Caracol (across the street on the corner of Fluvial Vallarta). Also popular!

Would it be weird to say this was the highlight of my vacation? I loved my trip to PV. One thing I really wanted to do was find some tasty shrimp cocktail, and I found it!

My favorite was the Classic Tuna Montadito, lightly marinated chunks of fresh tuna served over a bed of avocado--so fresh and flavorful! The Green Aguachile was made of raw shrimp marinated in a mildly spicy green sauce; and the Crab Enchiladas were four rolled tortillas stuffed with shredded crab meat and topped with a rich, creamy chipotle cream sauce and avocado slices. For our entrees, the Romantica Fillet was a rare seared tuna filet served over avocado salad and sweet potato puree; the Los Muertos Fillet was mahi mahi topped with shrimp in a creamy red sauce, served with rice and sautéed vegetables; and the Olas Altas Fillet was mahi mahi topped with a mushroom sautee. Each of these entrees was fresh, delicious, and came at reasonable prices. On top of the good food, the service was super friendly and attentive as well!

However, as me and my friends (it was 4 of us) were leaving the restaurant, our waiter chased us down claiming we did not tip enough. Here's a note from my friend detailing more of what happened: "It was 150 pesos which is a little more than 10% of the total. In Mexico, 10% is completely customary, especially for tourist. Locals will give even less and typically leave only about 50 pesos. I don't know if he was expecting for us to give him more just because we're used to giving 15 or even 20% at a time but I always do at least 10. If it's one of the really nice restaurants where they take care of absolutely everything then I do get more than that but this was just a normal place And I did fold the bills because I clipped it into the checkbook, so there is a chance he thought it was just 50. But to flip out and say it's not enough that he deserves more or just to take it away is crazy in my opinion." We may return, but this really turned a perfect visit into a not so great one in the end. The 3/5 is for food and service, would've been 5/5 had we not been stopped as we were leaving for not "tipping enough".

The entire front portion of the restaurant sits directly in the sand, so that's where we chose to have breakfast--under the iconic palapa roof, feet in the sand, overlooking the ocean. From our table you can watch the fishing boats and excursion boats heading out for the day, which gives the whole experience a relaxed, resort-like rhythm without feeling touristy or rushed. Service was excellent from the start--attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. They brought out a selection of pastries you can add if you want, like banana bread and cinnamon rolls, which felt like a thoughtful touch rather than an upsell. The coffee was very good, with plenty of options ranging from cappuccinos and café lattes to classic American coffee, all well prepared. For food, I ordered the scrambled eggs with Mexican chorizo, refried beans, and hash browns. It came with a basket of warm corn tortillas and several house salsas, letting you customize each bite. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and clearly made with care. We also ordered the shrimp eggs Benedict with spinach, which was beautifully done--rich, balanced, and fresh, with the shrimp cooked just right. One thing that really stands out is the ambiance. Being right on the beach, hearing the waves, feeling the breeze, and being encouraged (without being told) to slow down and take your time makes the meal feel like part of the vacation itself, not just fuel for the day. They also offer freshly squeezed juices, which pair perfectly with breakfast by the ocean. The menu is extensive, almost overwhelming in a good way--there are so many appealing options that it's genuinely hard to decide. That said, what we ordered was absolutely delicious and satisfying, and it left us wanting to come back and try more. Overall, La Palapa delivers on every level: location, atmosphere, food, and service. It's the kind of place where breakfast turns into a memory, not just a meal.
