So cute, so fun, so good! This place had the best ceviche we found in town. The shrimps were large! Margs were very good! All the seafood tasted so fresh! The server was so nice with great recommendations, joking with us the whole time, and very attentive to our group. It's on the second floor so look for the hostess stand by the entry way to the stairs. Highly recommend this place!
The breeze and people watching on the terrace were perfect for this solo outing. I saw a dish come out to a table near me and had to know what it was. My server, Jonathan, said it was one of the montaditos and recommended the tuna poke version. He did not steer me wrong. It was exactly what I needed- solid base of avocado, fresh tuna, well seasoned, a variety of scooping options. My strawberry mojito didn't taste like it had much alcohol in it, but I was ok with that, and it was delicious. Would recommend a stop here.
A very popular upstairs restaurant located in Zona Romantica. We came here on our first night in Vallarta, arriving in a drenching and loud thunderstorm. Service was excellent. Just shortly after we were seated at a perfectly decent interior table, when a window table opened up, they moved us to that table without any prompting on our part. The atmosphere in Atun Azul is lively and festive. As expected, the staff can speak English. I'm not sure though if I totally like that if you are Caucasian, they automatically give you an English version of the menu. I can read a Spanish menu just fine. On to the food, this is really an exclusively seafood restaurant, with the exception of one beef burger. Since I knew I would be eating a lot of seafood in Vallarta, I opted on my first night for the burger. I also ordered a pulpo (octopus) quesadilla. The quesadilla was nicely presented as open-faced (cheese and octopus atop a tortilla). It was pretty good, but they went way overboard with the garlic. The burger was so-so at best. While the patty was excellent, the bun was poor. It was too big for the patty and it was oily from an unpleasant tasting oleo that had applied to the bun. No, I would discourage you from ordering this burger. ' Atun Azul was also our introduction to the current high cost of dining out in resort areas of Vallarta. The burger was $14 in USD. JP ordered the Aguachiles Negro. It was interestingly, made from both octopus and chicharron. For you spicy food lovers, this one is for you! Absolutely the hottest spiciest dish I have ever sampled. But of course, JP loved it! JP also ordered tacos, which were very good. So other than the burger, I do recommend Atun azul.
This place was outstanding! Shout out to Alfredo, our wonderful server. Everything was fresh and flavorful and we felt it was really reasonably priced. The rock shrimp was outstanding as were the tuna tacos! The aguachile was excellent also. We really enjoyed our drinks, in particular the passionfruit margarita. The vibes are pretty chill, they do some fun things for birthdays also which I always appreciate
There's a few different kind of 5-star reviews - this is no Michelin starred spot, but it would make a great Diner-Dive-Drive-in eatery. Sit upstairs on the 2nd or 3rd level and watch the people ("diverse" is underselling it) and catch an ocean glimpse as the sun sets. Reasonably priced and very fresh, Make sure to have a tuna (atún) Montadito stacked high on top of avocado - we tried mango-habanero but there are several varieties. Crab enchiladas were wonderful with a savory "bisque" sauce. We sampled tacos as well with the octopus (pulpo) chicharrón and langosta (lobster) taking top honors. Service by Jesus and his team was attentive and enthusiastic in English and Spanish. It's open air, no A/C, but clean and exceptionally tasty.
Not only the best fish tacos in Puerto Vallarta but the best fish tacos I've EVER had. The fish is delicious and fresh. The flavors are unmatched. And you can't beat the prices. Our favorite is the tuna chicharron tacos and tuna Azul tostado. If you're in puerto Vallarta, you won't want to miss this DELICIOUS restaurant.
High end tuna in a relaxed balcony restaurant. Tuna Azul punches above its class with perfectly prepared tuna (and other food). I'll dream about this tuna - so flavorful and rare. They don't ask how you want it done, they know how it should be prepared and deliver. It arrived minutes after we placed our order. Love this place.
We were stopping in on a local Taco Tour and what fun it was to experience this place. The margaritas were unbelievable and the tuna so fresh, it was mouth watering. It was clear this would be a local hang out with seating outside and in, with colorful neon lights to make it pop. Wait staff was very friendly and kept things moving. They even had a huge smoker at the front for smoked fish dishes. This is a great place to visit if you're in town, butI'd love it if I were a local, too.
We had a great experience at Tuna Azul. The ambiance, the food, and the service were all excellent. The restaurant itself is on a second floor balcony overlooking the street. We were lucky to get to observe a troop of street dancers putting on a performance while we ate. They did a great job! For food, we had the tuna montaditos, both the poke tuna and the classic versions. I highly recommend the poke tuna version. So flavorful and fresh. We also enjoyed a stingray tostada, and both shrimp and fish tacos. I had never had stingray before. It was good but probably not something I would rush to order again. The aguachile verde was delicious and definitely worth trying. Definitely worth checking out Tuna Azul!
Tuna Azul is a casual but super friendly second floor spot in Zona Romantica for fresh Mexican seafood dishes. My favorite was the Classic Tuna Montadito, lightly marinated chunks of fresh tuna served over a bed of avocado--so fresh and flavorful! The Green Aguachile was made of raw shrimp marinated in a mildly spicy green sauce; and the Crab Enchiladas were four rolled tortillas stuffed with shredded crab meat and topped with a rich, creamy chipotle cream sauce and avocado slices. For our entrees, the Romantica Fillet was a rare seared tuna filet served over avocado salad and sweet potato puree; the Los Muertos Fillet was mahi mahi topped with shrimp in a creamy red sauce, served with rice and sautéed vegetables; and the Olas Altas Fillet was mahi mahi topped with a mushroom sautee. Each of these entrees was fresh, delicious, and came at reasonable prices. On top of the good food, the service was super friendly and attentive as well! read more

Food was fresh and tasty, I got Alfredo pasta with shrimp and the size of the shrimps were really good and juicy, service was really good as our drinks and food arrived in a timely manner. However, as me and my friends (it was 4 of us) were leaving the restaurant, our waiter chased us down claiming we did not tip enough. Here's a note from my friend detailing more of what happened: "It was 150 pesos which is a little more than 10% of the total. In Mexico, 10% is completely customary, especially for tourist. Locals will give even less and typically leave only about 50 pesos. I don't know if he was expecting for us to give him more just because we're used to giving 15 or even 20% at a time but I always do at least 10. If it's one of the really nice restaurants where they take care of absolutely everything then I do get more than that but this was just a normal place And I did fold the bills because I clipped it into the checkbook, so there is a chance he thought it was just 50. But to flip out and say it's not enough that he deserves more or just to take it away is crazy in my opinion." We may return, but this really turned a perfect visit into a not so great one in the end. The 3/5 is for food and service, would've been 5/5 had we not been stopped as we were leaving for not "tipping enough". read more
Nestle on the second floor with view of the street below. Great for people watching while you eat. The seafood is fresh and portions are big enough to share. The tuna was so delicious as was the aguachile. Would of been 5 star if the service was a bit better. There was only 4 tables while we dine and he barely check in. He just disappeared. But when paying he was quite assertive regarding how much we will leave for tip. read more

The food is incredible! Great service and ambiance too, including a stellar view. The tuna is a must. We got the ahi and it was buttery and flavorful, as was the avocado. The shrimp tacos were good too. The best meal I've had in PV and we're planning another visit before we leave! read more

Came here with a party of 7 and we got accommodated right away on the second floor. The bathroom is right there as well. Our server spoke English and was super energetic and kind! The food was so good, especially the tacos and they were very large. The cakes for dessert was way too sweet. Overall a very seamless and tasty experience! read more

Popped in for bae on a recommendation from some friends in the city who raved about T.A. I had so much chips and guacamole and he had so much tuna #Obsesionado The service was beyond great and the view of Zona Romantica from above on the top level (numero tres) overlooking the streets was something we'll never forget especially during a gorgeous pre-sunset. The bar is fuego! Stellar margaritas, drinks, beverages of all sorts including agua frescas and good choice frosty beers... Salud! They have music going like the party is all day long and large flat screen TVs with local events, sports and videos. There's plenty of room and space to spread out and the climb up the stairs is half the fun. Being a veggie in a popular seafood spot I seriously was ready to just have drinks jajaja, but grateful for the guac, energy and all the "Atún Blue" crew. read more

I absolutely loved the Tuna Chicharron tacos here! The tuna wasn't over battered or greasy and had just the right amount of crisp. There was a generous portion of tuna pieces in each taco and the ratio between all the toppings and condiment was done very well. We also ordered the Tuna Azul French Fries, which also had a generous portion of gouda cheese and minced al pastor. They also take card so you don't need to worry about having pesos with you! I got to try my friend's Grilled Octopus tacos and it was so tender and flavorful that I'd definitely be coming back hungry just to order these again ALONG WITH the Tuna Chicharron tacos haha! read more

During our trip to PV we heard good things about Tuna Azul. I had no idea it was a second floor restaurant and bar with views. Because of the restaurant being on the corner of the building the breeze comes right through making this a nice spot to be seated during dining for people watching. Enrique was our server. We ordered up one Marlin Tostada, fish tacos, and a shrimp and octopus burrita. Enrique was spot on with the service and our food was out quick. I thought the food was fresh and it tasted good. I appreciated Enrique's service and friendliness. I think the seafood in PV is excellent. So about an hour later we were just exiting the grocery store. And there was Enrique passing by shouting us out on his bicycle remembered us! Enrique we will be back amigo! Thanks. read more

Alfredo was our server and he was so kind and full of energy. The seafood here is delicious- the tuna was so fresh! And believe it or not, I tasted my son's shrimp Alfredo and the Alfredo sauce was the best I've ever had- packed with garlic. Yum! read more

I always go to this place for a great food and service. I usually get the club sandwich with fries. They always bring you extra condiments. It's outside nice and breezy. Fast service just a wonderful place. and also, I love to do breakfast there they can add extra vegetables to your taste read more

Stars -- Rock Shrimp That Slapped Me Into Nirvana Listen... I came to Tuna Azul for a casual bite. I left questioning my life choices and Googling "how to legally marry a crustacean." The rock shrimp? Absolute sorcery. Imagine if a shrimp did CrossFit, went to therapy, and got its chakras aligned--THAT'S what they're serving. Crispy. Spicy. Juicy. A little sweet. Honestly, I made eye contact with the waiter mid-bite and whispered, "I wasn't ready." The vibe? Chill, modern, with just enough class to make you think you have your life together (even if you're still texting your ex). The drinks slapped. The service? Swift and sweet, like the shrimp I now dream about nightly. If you're in PV and don't eat here, that's between you and your therapist. read more
We went to PVR for the weekend, it's our third time here and we were really wanting fresh tuna! What better place than Tuna Azul! Jesus was our server and he was so sweet, funny, and a great server. The food was delicious!!! We ordered the lobster tacos, shrimp ceviche, poke tuna , and some margaritas and everything was delicious and fresh. I wanted to order more food but I was so full my husband told me no more Located in Zona Romantica, it is such a fun vibe. If you're looking for that perfect blend of laid-back coastal vibes with elevated food and drink, this spot in PV nails it. From the moment we walked in, the energy was warm, welcoming, and full of character. Let's focus on seafood: out of this planet. The lobster tacos were flavorful and perfectly balanced with just the right touch of heat. The tuna tacos: they were fresh, vibrant, and layered with textures that made every bite better than the last. Next level! The full bar is not to be ignored. It's a full standout. I had a pour of Tepeztate mezcal, and not only was it complex, but our Jesús gave me a tutorial on how to drink it properly--slow, intentional sips with orange slices and sal de gusano. It elevated the experience. Speaking of service--Jesús was our server and he was estupendo. Friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the menu and bar selection. He guided us through the experience without ever rushing us, and his recommendations were spot-on. Pro tip: Come hungry, ask for Jesús, and don't skip the mezcal or raicilla. read more

Honestly - idk how they are pumping out the food so fast. The portions were generous and the service was amazing. Ask for Alfredo, and request one of his famous toasts! I recommend the crab enchiladas and the tuna montadito! 10/10. read more
This place was pretty good. I walked by several times and was excited to try it out. They only take cash and were happy to hold our table while we walked to the atm. We got a table inside and it was fine but pretty hot and loud. In the future, I would definitely want to get one of the patio tables so I can people watch. I wanted the enchiladas, but the server checked with the chef and said there was flour in the sauce. I was so appreciative to him for doing this! Ended up getting the lobster tacos instead. They were just okay- the lobster seemed like it had been frozen and was a little off. The margaritas were great! Pretty standard for the area. I might come back for an outdoor table and different menu item, but didn't have the ideal experience. read more
OMG PV does NOT have a restaurant that is a warm welcoming and tastier than Tuna Azul! My entire family is here for a family vaca and the location is not big but everyone in the place made a way to accommodate to our entire family. Jesus and Enrique were our waiters and turned into family! Seating us appropriately so they still had room to fit smaller groups. The food was magnificent my taste buds screamed when I bit into my fried shrimp tacos and my husbands eye browse raised when he saw all the lobster loaded on top of his lobster tortilla tacos. Our drinks were out of this world and STRONG this was a great beginning to a family vacation that will not be forgotten! I highly suggest anyone who comes to PV and visits the zona romantica area to swing by Tuna Azul get a drink or better yet get a mouth taco convo! You will not regret it! read more
