An immense public park filled with the colossal sculptures and monumental gates by Gustav Vigeland…read more I had wanted to see this and luckily our tour brought us here. Our guide described the history of the sculpture garden and gave interpretations of many of the sculptures. Well worth a visit.
Always a must- okay maybe NOT if you have been twice and in the last 7 years…read more.. But if it's your first time in Oslo especially give yourself at least 2 hours to walk all the way in and about, around and out. This is a classic outdoor sculpture garden all done by one man-so not common. Massive grounds. Beautiful park walk and fountains and views. Iconic place and I highly suggest you go to his small museum first so you can get more history on Gustav Vigeland and the evolution of the his 200 pieces turning into the "Frognerpark."

My relatives and parents wanted to take a stroll in a small public park. My cousin mentioned that…read moresvartdalsparken is very scenic and beautiful. We went through a small path that lead us to the entrance. There were picnic tables and lots of kids/families in the area. Once we went through the front, starts a small trail which is scenic. You might want to wear tennis shoes-you are entering a hiking trail that is not paved. There are small ponds you will pass. I believe at 1.5 miles you cross this bridge with a beautiful waterfall and an old abandoned building, which is worth the hike. These woods/hike is not strenuous, but I suggest you wear the proper footwear.

There's also an art installation that is only open on Sundays that is super cool. You can't take photos in there and really makes you stay in the moment while inside. If you are visiting from out of Norway, I highly suggest seeing this, even if you aren't that big into hiking or the outdoors. Both trams have stops along the way of the park. Stunning views of the fjords and the city up here. Breathtaking. The park itself has cool statues (true to Oslo statue style) and lots of old tall trees to provide shade. There is a small gift shop, cafe and wash closets on site which were all well maintained. Score. Not a #1 must see activity, but definitely worth a stop if you have time. Even if just for a few pictures of the fjords or a quick walk around the park.
Man kan se utover hele byen
