Italian-owned gelato cafe. Small scoops for a cheap price. Only opens when it starts getting warmer. Both inside & patio seating.

I had the caramel hot coffee and apple pie. My husband had a chocolate coffee and blueberry crumble cake. It was delicious. I forgot to take pictures because I was so hungry. The ice cream creations the waiters were carrying were amazing. The restaurant had about 20 tables and was very light and airy. I would definitely recommend and come back.

The breakfast menu looks impressive at first glance and the prices seem acceptable, although i had high expectations coming from the gastronomy and knowing what should be expected from this venue. I ordered Breakfast number 528 as pictured. On first impression I noticed that the bread/pastry ratio to butter, ham and cheese is only enough for one roll. I asked the waitress if this was a normal portion, as i had noticed that the service staff prepare the breakfast, I do not agree with this due to a few reasons but one is the consistency of the food being served due to whomever is preparing it. The waitress responded that it is a normal portion size for the price. I disagree however. Only one slice of ham was served and one piece of cheese cut in half to look like two slices. Besides the small portion I then noticed that marmalade was past its date by two months which I had replaced. Unfortunately I had only noticed the honey was 8 months past its date after I had eaten it! After doing some research I was put at ease after reading that archaeologists had found and sampled Honey from within Egyptian Tombs, due to its high sugar content it apparently never expires! However, that being said, restaurants are responsible for controlling products with use by dates and not sending them out to the customer. They should only keep enough stock that they will use up before it expires. Getting back to Portofino, I have been sitting here now, with an empty plate and one unused roll, for over 40 minutes! I would like to order another coffee because that is really very good! I was going to write this review later today but decided to start it now to find out how long they will leave me waiting in a moderately empty restaurant! Don't get me wrong, Portofino is a nice place to grab a coffee and an ice cream but I would recommend going to the Bermuda triangle instead for breakfast!

We then picked a table in the back corner which was really nice and intimate. The waitress was very nice and attentive. We tried some local wines and they were all very tasty. All main courses come with a salad. It is a really decent sized salad that works well as a starter. The one we had was mixed lettuce dressed in a gorgeous dressing, grated carrot in a pickle dressing, cabbage in another dressing and a little pot of beetroot. For mains I had the mandel butter forelle. It was the best cooked fish I have had in Germany. The fish was very fresh, it was however, german style, swimming in butter. But it was a really good portion of fish with steamed potatoes. It was a little bit too greasy and the lemon was too small but apart from that I really enjoyed my dish. The boyfriend had the turkey Züricher art. Basically strips of turkey with mushrooms in a cream sauce with a potato rösti. It was maybe a bit too heavy but really tasty still. To finish off our meals we shared the home made cherries in kirsch with ice cream and cream. This is a real grown up dessert. The cherries tasted more of kirsch than cherries and was a bit too strong. It was quite a nice combination with the ice cream but it is not something I would have again. The grand total was still just under 40 euros. I would say it was worth every cent.
