Admittedly, it's a little unusual to take a pleasure trip to the County wastewater treatment plant and maybe it's not your ideal destination on a warm day, but chances are, you've never seen anything like this: standing under a 380-foot-tall wind turbine and listening to its calming swoosh-swoosh. It's the only one of the East Coast (or so they told us!) Nerd nirvana! Think of it more like an environmental center. Our guide, Michelle, was friendly and accommodating. Tours are offered year-round, but they prefer to give them on Mondays and Fridays, especially in the summeritme.

That said, this is really worth a visit, and is one of Natural Lands' more enchanting properties. I have visited the NJ Pine Barren trails, and am familiar with the landscape. This preserve had the typical hollies and pines, lichens and moss, sandy ground, swampy spots, etc., but the trees grew a bit higher here, and the canopy felt more thinned out, with more sunlight penetrating to the trails. It had a really neat feel. This is a large preserve, so I did not explore nearly enough of it. I look forward to visiting again! There is a gravel parking lot for this preserve. Trails off the lot are well cleared and free of rocks or roots, and are mostly flat. This is a good option for disabled people, young children, and dogs. Pristine clean, like all NL preserves, this was free of litter, and no dog mess anywhere. This was my 19th out of 20 Natural Lands preserves, and I can say, it was one of the top 5 to explore!

They…read moreare open to visitors Sundays and Tuesdays, I believe from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. I've been here twice and was satisfied both times. It's a great way to spend an hour and a half. I visited in October and November and in that cool fall weather, the farm just feels so welcoming. The staff are also very kind. Expect to see pigs, chickens, turkeys, an emu, an alpaca, horses, more than a handful of dogs, a skunk, donkeys, a sheep, and goats! Many of them are just walking around which is so fun. Fair warning though. One goat did try to eat my jacket haha There is a place to buy buckets of vegetables to feed the animals. I don't know how much it costs. And there's also a little snack bar for if you get hungry. In the center of the farm are picnic tables to eat at.
