Perhaps taking on the advice of Jim Morrison in Wayne's World, "If you book them, they will come"…read moreThe Story goes, a family in desperate need of promoting their riding staples business comes up with the idea of hosting local regional bands in 1992. Fast forward to 2014 - It has grown to be known around the country as the largest Rock Fest and "THE BEST CLASSIC ROCK FESTIVAL in the country." Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Blondie, Judas Priest, Poison, Styx, KISS, Skid Row, Kid Rock, Halestorm, DIO, Jonny Lang, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Soul Asylum, Alice Cooper, Black Valentine, The Allman Brothers, Meat Loaf, Foreigner, The Beach Boys, Mickey Thomas and Slash, to name a few have all performed here. It has now grown to 3 days. Few festivals offer the full experience of literally "getting away" and the Moondance Jam offers that as early as Wednesday (You will need a 4 day camping pass) while you enjoy not just the beauty of Leech Lake and Chippewa National Forest but 300 acres of camping and facilities. There are food stands, lawn chair seats (Bring your own), VIP seating and General Admission area, which is really great, you get to roam the entire concert area. There have been many, many more upgrades to the festival from new stages, new lighting to new sound system, from what I have heard. I have not been here since 2002, when I came to see the GREATEST voice in Rock N' Roll history - Mr. Ronnie James Dio and his band DIO. A petite 5-4-inch sorcerer with a dynamo voice, who prowled around the stages like a miniature feline titan, singing his heart out with ferocity and precision of the finest hard rock melodies unmatched by any other rocker. And the dude was 60 years old in 2002. If there is a Rock-N-Roll heaven, then its got one helluva lead singer. Good Bye Ronnie - Raising the Metal Horns to salute ya.
