I had to start my first review for the 2015 year off with one of my absolute favorite places in…read moretown! Phil Clark's Martial Arts Academy (which I'm just gonna call PCMAA from hereon out because words) is, hands down, one of my favorite places to get my fitness on in this side of the country! You get to learn self-defense, BJJ, TKD, and you get a great workout/make awesome friends while you're at it. What more could you ask for? :D My friend found this place when we ventured out here for rotations and told me about it since he knew I'd been on the prowl for an MMA gym of sorts. My mom wouldn't let me learn martial arts when I was little because she thought I'd turn all manly, but seeing how I turned out anyway, she really should've just let me. (Too bad so sad.) It's better late than never though! Anyway! Ever since August-ish of last year, I've been coming to the TKD & BJJ classes here as often as my lovely schedule will allow. Phil is quite possibly one of the nicest souls to grace this town and/or planet, and I am so, so glad that I found PCMAA. :] I felt super welcome and comfortable there from day one, which is really saying a lot, considering how up close and personal you get when you're rolling with other people in BJJ. He's also an amazing instructor who honestly goes above and beyond what he has to in order to best help us to learn. (My somewhat sporadic appearances make it difficult to remember what I have and haven't learned sometimes. ._.) We're super lucky to have him, as he's had extensive experience with karate, TKD and BJJ. The classes currently being offered include... -One More Round Fitness: a boxing full-body conditioning-style boot camp of sorts -Gracie Jiu Jitsu: we're affiliated with Relson Gracie, so he and Rhalan come out here and hold seminars! :D!!! -Taekwondo: a mixture of traditional & modern--depending on what you'd rather learn, he teaches both the forms as well as self-defense and kickboxing (*Full schedule is listed at the bottom of this review!*) On days where I actually am free, I often end up hanging out here hours after classes have already ended to talk/hang out/roll with other students or with Phil. The environment here is very, very friendly and welcoming--it's definitely a family-like atmosphere, which I've really grown to love and appreciate out here. All ages and fitness/experience levels are welcome, as classes will be tailored to the students. :] The first trial class is free, and there's a referral program for current students ($15 off their next month of classes if they refer a new student and that student signs up for the month!). Discounts are available for First Responders (+ a smaller discount available for their spouse/children)! -Kids' Classes- Gracie Jiu-Jitsu offered 6-6:45pm (TR) TKD offered 6:45-7:30pm (TR) -Adult Classes- Kickboxing offered 11:30-12:30pm (MW) + 7-8pm (M) Gracie Jiu-Jitsu classes offered 11:30-12:30pm (TR), 6-7pm (MW) and 8:30-9:30pm (TR) Taekwondo offered 7:30-8:30pm (TR) One More Round Fitness (full body boxing workout) offered 5:30-6:30pm (M-R) Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Phil-Clarks-Martial-Arts-Academy/145511766835 Definitely come check this place out if you're ever in or around the Ashland area. I promise it'll be worth your while! :]

I attended Marshall University from 1989-1994. It has changed a lot since I graduated, but what…read morehasn't changed is my love for MU. I studied public relations in the school of journalism. My bachelors degree, persistence, and God's blessings have taken me further than I could have ever imagined! There were a few things that attracted me to Marshall. I liked that I could walk from one end of campus to the other in roughly ten minutes. And my parents lived less than an hours drive from Huntington. And lastly, they offered a tuition discount because my hometown in Kentucky was nearby. I was employed at the book store through the work study program. I could stop in for an hour, go to class and come back and work for a few hours. I loved the flexibility! The two pain points were registering for classes which meant standing in line in the basement and praying the classes I wanted were still open when I got to the front of the line. The other headache was completing the financial aid form and waiting to speak to a counselor. Now, neither is an issue because students can register for classes and fill out the FASFA form online. I've stayed connected to Marshall through volunteering on local alumni boards first in Baltimore, MD and now in Jacksonville, FL. Marshall has and is growing tremendously both the campus and the student body. I still enjoy attending football and basketball games when I'm in town visiting my family. I wouldn't change my college experience for anything! The education and life-long friendships are priceless;)))

I really enjoyed coming to Visit Marshall University with my mom and dad for Green and White Day…read more The students and staff were so nice and greeted my family and i with a smile and asked how we were doing . Then when my family and I took a tour of the campus we had lunch at one of the dining halls which was awesome. After my family and I met Mrs. Bianca who is the Autism Training center coordinator We we're really excited to have the opportunity for me(Brady McPherson) to have the opportunity possibly be a part of the Autism program that Marshall University had to offer. I am also excited because I recently got into Marshall University and am really looking forward to having the opportunity to Study Special Education for 4 years I will be an Incoming Freshman Next year for the Fall 2024-2025 year . Thanks for being awesome Marshall . Sincerely, Brady McPherson
