Finally, after days of a chest cold and having no intent of driving into the City I broke down and went to see Dr. Aasmaa. I am now a believer! First of all, they had an appointment available next day which was great. Secondly, the front office staff was so pleasant and helpful I thought I died (pun intended) and went to medical heaven. The icing cake was Dr. Aasmaa herself. She was knowledgeable, patient and quite the listener. Her compassion was amazing and she genuinely wanted to hear how I was feeling and how she could help get me better!!!! Now for the negative. Well...there is no negative. It keeps getting better. I needed a prescription renewal and it was approved immediately for the mail in drug company. I had a side effect of an drug and her partner in the practice called me back in 5 minutes and wasn't even remotely annoyed. It makes me almost want to get sick again just to see Dr. Aasmaa - however this is crazy...I know...I know.

We had a whole convoluted conversation about what the doctor would and would not do, just because I assumed the visits could be combined for efficiency, at the end she then tells me they don't do those appointments at the same time. It's fine that they didn't combine the appointments, but I still need both appointments and she just needed to explain that or offer me a double time slot. The nurse I first spoke to was very nice and agreed that they would mask, let me wait in the car to avoid a crowded waiting room, and have a first appt of the day. When I called to confirm this a week prior to the appt. I was told by a receptionist that I would need to fill out my paperwork in the waiting area and show ID. He laughed at me when I told him that was dangerous for me and said "You can wear a mask if you're worried" and "this is a public place we can't close for you", when I never asked them to. He also laughed about masks and said "we don't take COVID precautions anymore here." I was in tears after the call and had to cancel my appointment because it was clearly not a safe situation. It's disturbing that at-risk people can not safely access in-person care without facing these attitudes and challenges. This virus is airborne and 45% of people are asymptomatic. Peer-reviewed studies show that even mild infections cause long-term heart problems including a 72% increased risk of heart failure, 63% increased risk of heart attack, and 52% increased risk of strokes. It's shocking to me that 5 years in a cardiology office would choose to endanger their staff and patients and mock someone who is following science and reality.
