I could go on and on about all the bad experiences I've had at Elgin State Bank ,but the straw that…read morebroke the camels back was, last week when I needed some funds, I went to the ATM in their parking lot to withdraw money out of my personal checking account ,to my surprise It just kept kicking out my card with a receipt that had a code number on it ,after six different attempts I tried to go to the other ATM in their parking lot and attempt, It said my bank account was closed. I knew that was ridiculous because there was several thousand dollars in both my accounts ,so I went to the window and asked them about what was going on. They made the comment that "oh have you used your ATM card as of late "and I said no I have not. They said well it's been canceled then because of lack of activity ,I couldn't believe it. The expiration date was well into 2026 and they canceled my ATM cards both my personal and business cards were canceled without notifying me ,and I was just thinking what the hell if I was out of town and I needed emergency cash. This is what I should expect from this bank. That's the end of this bank with me.

He invested our Ira's into mutual funds that lost money After assuring us the return would be better than the Vanguard Wellington funds they were currently invested in. He invested our IRAs into bond mutual funds that lost more than 2% while the Wellington increased in value by 3% during this time period. We withheld one third of our assets in cash until we saw a positive return. We then discovered that Waddell and Reed was charging a 1% fee just for holding the cash. Michael admitted he failed to tell us this. He then turned the matter over to their compliance department. The response of their compliance department? We should have read the fine print on their contract document-- a document we never received. Michael failed to perform his fiduciary responsibility in failing to inform us that his firm was charging a hefty 1% fee on a significant amount of cash in our IRA. I would stay away from this firm and Michael Heatwole.

Jenya (and staff) have consistently returned calls/emails and, unlike many businesses, who might "fudge" their way through a topic about which they're not certain, Rose Tax will refer you to other resources who can assist with your specific questions. I appreciate this - would much rather have someone tell me "I don't know for sure, but here is someone who would be a great resource for you" than "I'm pretty sure it's this" or "I THINK it's probably that." The latter is not helpful! I would definitely recommend.

This bank does not communicate individual phone numbers for the branches unless pressed and there was no return call from anyone in senior management to discuss corrective action to our concerns with when messages were left by voicemail, survey and by direct request though a bank employee we finally reached by phone. We have been very long-term customers, believing in the importance of supporting local businesses because they employ people in our community. We passed by Elgin State Bank but I stopped because I saw ponies hooked to a carousel walking in puddles. I was pissed so on Monday June 11th I went back there to ask the manager, Elizabeth, why they were sponsoring animal abuse. She told me it was for their employee appreciation celebration. I told her I was mad about it and she said that it was ok because they know the owners and they take care of their animals, so if there was lightning outside they would corral them into their carriage. I tried to make her understand that hooking them to metal bars and letting little kids ride them is cruel and exploitative. (I'm not mad at the kids because they don't know but it would have been a great opportunity to teach them that it's not ok). We were both testy and no matter how intensely I expressed my concern she really didn't care so I thanked her and left. And trust me I'll be there next year if they do it again.
