We had a lot change over the past year and we were exceptionally nervous about getting our taxes…read moredone this year. So much so, in fact, that we started looking for a new CPA in July of last year. Lisa offered us a free consultation and told us how much she'd charge us just by asking us a few simple questions. But her service doesn't stop there. For the next several months, plenty long before she got a single penny from us, I had many questions. And she graciously answered every single one of them. And QUICKLY! Sometimes I'd get an email back in minutes of having sent it. She's a wealth of information and kindness. I cannot recommend Lisa highly enough!

I've worked with this tax preparer since 2013, but recent service has been inexcusable. I was…read moreignored for weeks despite urgent inquiries. When I provided written instructions to update my payment details on 4/10, she disregarded them. Worse, she only contacted me on the morning of 4/15--after she had already scheduled an unauthorized $1,250 withdrawal from my old account. Because of her negligence, I am now burdened with the arduous process of recovering these funds from the FTB myself. Between the total breakdown in communication and this financial fallout, I no longer trust her with my affairs. Look elsewhere if you value basic accountability.

Time issues plague Denise. Constantly behind. Always making excuses. Because everything is done…read morelast minute mistakes are made. She refuses to answer calls, texts, and emails no matter how many times you try. Then gets uppity about trying to contact her! I tried everything from contacting her 2 weeks from deadlines. Then again, a week to deadline. Assured we are on track and on April 14th she emails (finally) and says "due to time she is filing an extension"... what???!!! When you complain, she kept my deposit and told me to go elsewhere. The whole thing is extremely upsetting. I really did my best to work with her... it's just an impossible situation. I've never encountered a situation like this before with anyone else. It's not too much to ask someone in private practice (who charges $400 an hour) to reply.

I wish I had kinder things to say....since last year it took over 7 months to get my tax return…read moreback, because she filed incorrectly. I clearly stated multiple times to her to mark a certain amount as 2014-7. Yet she did not follow thru, ended up with my tax return stuck in limbo, with no way to access it. Instead of assisting, she wanted thousands to get my tax return processed, yet it was her mistake in the first place. She is consistently unable to return phone calls, emails, texts, smoke signal you name it. I have never met a more unprofessional accountant. And wish anybody else in Gilroy, to run and run fast. Not to mention she stole our deposit for this years tax returns, that she refused to process, because we were "bothering her" during tax season. We are on limited income, because of our Make a wish child, so taking 250 from somebody who really needs it, is quite cruel.

But we did not understand how drastic the changes would be. We went from getting about $2,000 back per year to owing $6,000!!! We thought that our refund would be very small or that we would about break even. An $8,000 swing is crazy. Tax laws are purposely complicated. I'm not a CPA. I don't understand tax law. That's what I pay Noto for. He's supposed to know these things. I feel that since the changes were so huge in 2018 that he should have given his customers the courtesy of a quick phone call or an e-mail. How difficult would it have been for him to just type a quick e-mail blast to tell everyone to look at changing their deductions? He had a whole year. Did he just not want to deal with the number of customers wishing to schedule appointments to discuss their taxes? I also corrected a mistake he made on one of our returns a few years ago. I remember him chuckling and saying, "Don't tell anybody." Also, I started doing a review program with Best Buy last year. They send me products to test and I review them on their website. I called Noto to ask him about the tax implications of this before starting the program and he told me that if I kept the products to under $5,000 worth for the year I should be OK. I did about $2,000 worth of products and that screwed us. So he was wrong about that also. So I stand by my review. The man is useless and I will NOT be paying for his services again. I know some other customers of his that were also blind-sided by their 2018 taxes and won't be using him either. I am not the only customer he has lost over this.
