Dr. Henson is the OB-Gyne of 9 out of 10 expats women here in the Metro. I've first heard about her…read morewhen I was still in my country (Brazil) doing some research about doctors in the Philippines. After all, I would deliver my baby far from my family in a foreign land and I needed to find someone reliable to assist me. I've Googled some obvious key words like "good ob-gyne manila" and I've found a blog by a Brazilian woman who had lived in Manila some years ago. Thanks to the internet, people can share their experiences (hey, Yelp!). This woman was saying lots of great things about Dr. Henson, so I wrote down her name in my Moleskine. The plan was setting an appointment as soon as I arrived in Manila. That's what I did. I was 5 months pregnant, if I'm not mistaken. The first impression of her was very positive. She's very cool. And fashionable. She wears unique clothes. Actually, the first thing I've noticed when I entered the room were her signature glasses - thick, round and black, just like Harry Potter! By her clinic, you can also tell she's a design fan. She has miniatures of designed chairs as part of the decor. Ok, you may be wondering: "what doest it matter if a doctor is fashionable or not? I want to know if she's skilled!". I tell you: yes, she is VERY skilled. But she's also VERY talkative, so you have to make sure you talk too. I mean, make sure to find ways to make all your questions. I had a great experience with her, but I know some people just get stressed because they feel she's not listening to them. It's up to you. I've never had this feeling, though. She did a great job during my labor and delivery and my baby was born healthy and strong :) Another thing I like about Dr. Henson is that she always text you back when you send her some message. Being text friendly is something I really appreciate in a doctor. She replies really fast, what is great for anxious people like me. I usually go to St. Luke's, but she also has a clinic at Makati Med. Time Day at St. Luke's Hospital: M-Th 2-5 PM; F 9-12 NN Office number/Location 789-7700 L7125

My brother had Stage 3 cancer and he was already significantly weakening and having much difficulty…read morewith chemotherapy. I was researching and looking around for alternative cures, and a friend recommended Dr. Tam, a naturopathic doctor and a cancer nutrition specialist. He had reportedly cured even patients with Stage 4 cancer. And so, with much hope, my dad, my brother, and I went to see this doctor after making an appointment. He was friendly and exuded a breezy, almost carefree aura even as he looked through my brother's medical records and test results. I almost took offense as he seemed so carefree despite the gravity of the situation, but I would later understand why. He prescribed a 100% raw food vegan regimen (fruits and vegetables), with supplements. The regimen was a challenge (it included drinking ampalaya juice, among other things!), but my brother was determined to go through with it. He stopped chemotherapy and went with Dr. Tam's treatment. After six months of the 100% raw food regimen with supplements, my brother's lab results had significantly improved and Dr. Tam relaxed my brother's raw food regimen, adding some cooked food. His health continued to improve and he became stronger (we didn't even feel like he had cancer at this point, as it was the chemo that had really weakened him), until he was declared cancer-free five years later. Every year he still takes the standard tests and the results are all good. I think I now understand Dr. Tam's seemingly carefree attitude when we first consulted with him; it was probably because he didn't see cancer the same way we did or the way it is depicted in movies - as somehow the end of the line or of all hope, or something automatically associated with death. He knew that with the right diet and supplements as well as determination, cancer can be beaten, as what happened with my brother.
