Red Sparrow Gallery - Lots of various items for gift ideas

First time at the gallery/studio & I absolutely could of spent a lot of money on neat gifts and…read moremore art for my walls. I restrained myself as I'm waiting to access my new living space and don't need more art sadly sitting in the dark of storage. However, I did stock up on cards that have her artwork on them (there's a deal if you buy 5) to brighten up the day for some friends and family. The gallery is located in the professional building and the entrance is accessible but the gallery itself might be tight in some spots if one has a wheelchair or even a walker. However, if there's something of interest, I'm sure Lorraine would be happy to bring items closer to a person as she's very personable and the whole time I m was there we were chatting about her gallery and the different items other artists have there. Literally a great mix of gift options as there's prints, pottery, jewellery, sculptures, cards, cloth items and even buttons with art designs. I was originally connected with Lorraine through my cousin. Like many of us, I wanted to do something to help those in Ukraine but make sure it was going somewhere useful. So what better way help by going through someone that is already connected to the country and doing a fundraiser. Lorraine has certain art that she's selling at various sizes on canvas for indoors or on another material for withstanding outdoors. She showed me what she printed for another customer to hang outside, and I was actually sad that I don't have a massive backyard to decorate (as it was simply beautiful!). I selected the canvas sunflower art with colourful fields in the background (sorry no photo of it until it's hanging on my wall in my new place!) but there's several options that she's offering for this fundraiser. It's not limited, so reach out to her if your interested in finding out more. She's really great at responding on Facebook and she has some flexibility with her hours at the gallery if the posted hours don't work and you want to schedule a specific time to meet her. Honestly, I recommend to stop by and take a look around. I now have this gallery on my list to take my family when they want to do a mini Edmonton trip to look at art or find unique Canadian gifts to send overseas.

This place is my secret weapon for hilarious (and saucy/slightly inappropriate) cards for all occasions. As for their namesake, their framing is impeccable and the images they have on hand are impressive and varied. I've seen a lot of different projects done out of here and the work is beautiful. Bring in your own items, or find something beautiful in house! Or stock up on cards! There's lots of options!

I often pass by framing shops in the malls in Edmonton and never go in because I worry it's out of my price range or that im going to be subjected to high pressure sales tactics. I have never had these worries at Black Gold Gallery and Frame. The owner is a lovely woman who is friendly but content to leave you to browse if you tell her you are just looking. A little known fact about this place also is if you are a Bradford exchange fan they will place an order for you if you see something you like on the website and will do it through their own account which is great if online shopping makes you uncomfortable or you don't have a credit card. Just make sure you have at least half the money to put down on your purchase and they will call you when it arrives. They were very understanding with me the last time I made a purchase and it took me three days to get to Leduc to actually pick it up. I only received one extra reminder phone call and not once was I ever accused of trying to flake out on paying them the other half of the money. These folks have been around since 1993 and with great selection and unbeatable customer service it is easy to see why. If you are in the Leduc area and looking to add to the decor of your home make sure to give this great small business a look and I promise you will not be disappointed.

Because they are artists themselves, they are able to choose the exact right frame to enhance the works. They are such kind people as well. They have never let me down. I also found out that they do the framing for notable artists and photograph so that confirms I made the right choice in having them do my work.

I live in Grande Prairie and the painting was coming from Calgary. I decided to contact the gallery to get a quote and some options for a floating frame. Ting was amazing to deal with. Not only did he give me as many options as he could, he individually quoted each frame type. Then when the painting arrived, he gave me an idea of what each frame would look like, and made a suggestion based on his expertise. The framing was done, and the painting prepared for shipping all within a couple weeks. It is amazing - stellar - everything I had hoped for. The painting looks perfect, and it is obvious to me that they took all possible care when dealing with the painting. They are extremely responsive and helpful. I will definitely be going back to Kamena for all my framing needs in the future. I would trust them with all of my priceless art!!!

This time I came to see an Art Mentorship Exhibition called "New Voices 1" at the Visual Arts Alberta- CARFAC Project Space. This exhibit featured work by Sofia Cristanti, Yong Fei Guan and Keita Kwame Kankam. The art gallery is on the 3rd floor. You could either take the stairs or the elevator. There were 2 main rooms showcasing these "New Voices 1" artists. The visual art pieces were made with a variety of media such as acrylic on canvas, soapstone on marble and ink on rice paper. The art was well lit and the pieces were spaced adequately apart. Across the hall there were another 2 rooms featuring very thought provoking pieces by Emily Jan and Timmy MacDonald. Emily Jan's piece called "After the Hunt" was stunning. She had made animal carcasses with felt material and displayed them on an elaborate banquet table. I loved how you could walk around the large table to take in the little details. Timmy MacDonald had a piece showing a raw tree trunk placed on top of a processed piece of lumber called "Simple Perversion." I found the visual art amazing! I am not an art expert but I do appreciate various forms of art. I found myself having discussions about what might've inspired the artists to make particular artistic choices. It's a great way to enjoy art and to share ideas! . I love that this is a public gallery and that it is run by artists. It's very accessible. I didn't have to pay an entrance fee. There was a donation box inside. It's great to see places like this where artists can be supported by our community. I really enjoyed coming here!
