+ Grateful for its free parking lots, particularly on Surf City Marathon day where sponsored buses…read morealso pick you up there and drop you off near the race starting line. - Despite its farther proximity from the starting line compared to closer lots like Pacific City mall, many still came here, so it was super crowded. + However, nearby residential street parking is also free that day. - Unfortunately, what SCM neglected to preinform us that the shuttle back doesn't go straight from the dropoff point back to the Civic Center. It detours to drop some runners off at Edison HS, which basically adds 10min to the bus ride. . Had I known, I'd prob have sought nearer parking for the SCM and just bike the rest of the way. . Somewhat peaceful ambience, albeit loud neighborhood.

I was here in Long Beach watching the news and getting ready for school when I watched as the second plane hit the 2nd tower. That memory has been with me since. While on a weekend trip to san diego we visited the air and space museum and were surprised to see a cruiser on display that was actually at ground zero! When I got back I thought to myself "I wonder if there's other artifacts that I can see around town". A quick search showed that there were pieces of steel from the towers here. So on 9/11 of last year, we drove out here to see the memorial and have a moment of silence for the victims. The memorial is located at the bottom of the staircase in a pentagon shaped base and honors all lost in the towers, flights as well as first responders. In the center stands a steel beam that was part of WTC donated by NYC Fire and Police. It's quite surreal seeing an object from that dark day in history.

This is our third time renting out this space and the past workers were nice and helpful…read more But the two ladies working tonight were so rude. One was okay but the other clearly hates her job. How can you work at a community center and not like people ?!?!? Doesn't make much sense. Also , if you expect people to clean up after themselves , it would be nice to provide proper equipment. They expect us to clean a room that can host 100 people with a small broom and scooper. No vacuum.

I have two words for the people we dealt with trying to rent a venue for a family gathering:…read more Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! We originally rented the Center for Founders Village. We paid a deposit and agreed to hire security guards bc we wanted to serve alcohol. More than a month later, Ben calls from the city saying there has been a double booking. We have to change our date, time or venue. Ben provided no evidence that the other group signed a contract before us. We took the high road after FV Rec Center was offered at a discount. We inspected the space and found it to be workable, although not on par with the original space. A couple of days after we agreed to change the space, Ben calls back and says we have to change again. Apparently there is a party scheduled in the adjacent room at FV Rec Center, and it's for teenagers. They did not want us serving alcohol next to teenagers. Again, Ben provided no evidence that the other group signed their contract before ours, which means the teenager party should find another space, not us. We can't change the date, bc several people of the 135 expected are flying in from out of town. We ended up renting space in Santa Ana, bc FV mysteriously didn't want our biz. This is after we rented the Founders space before, and mija has volunteered for the elderly at the center. Everyone we dealt with at the dept that handles renting space is incompetent and a liar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What likely happened is that another party with pull wanted the Founders space, and we got trounced. Then you offer us space we can't have bc of the alcohol matter, when you knew we wanted to serve alcohol. Don't do biz with FV unless you want to get lied to. I am talking to my lawyer about suing the city.

Then I asked Is this a senior center? ? He refused to answer these two basic questions with courtesy his response was (as he looked at his co-worker).... , "you'll have to go down the hall and ask them, at our gym. I said Is this a senior center ? He said " you'll have to go down the hall to ask the gym staff . ". !! WOW. How RUDE WAS THIS MAN there was no one else in the lobby except myself . He turned away ti glance at his coworker with a bizarre attitude that I asked a couple questions. I exited and walked away, still not knowing if this place was a Senior Center- because he refused to answer that question - I presented it 3 times to him. I just turned 65 a few days ago and I was excited to look around . He was by far the rudest associate out of two associates there at the front desk in an empty lobby. The other one turning her face away... I strolled to the gym and. Met an EXTREMELY NICE GAL ( short haircut Brunette) who welcomed me and she immediately answered my same question @ is this a senior center. She says YES ! She was a fabulous person that enjoyed her position there Now was that so hard - I say dump that guy - he doesn't know the first thing about customer service not now not ever , he was rude and unwilling to answer a couple of easy questions . Short haircut aprox 25. Yrs old. He obviously didn't want to be there
