The history of Edinburgh, and indeed of Scotland, is indissolubly bound up with its castle, which dominates the city from its lofty seat atop an extinct volcanic rock.
This mount offers a great panoramic view of this beautiful city. When you arrive at the Argyle Battery, take a hard left to Lang stairs, reach the top, and admire the beauty.
On your left, there is St Margaret's Chapel, the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh, and Big Mons Meg, I call if Hulk of all canons.
Spend some 30 minutes here, if the weather permits, you can see till Calton Hill and the North Sea.
PS: if you are here for the One O'Clock Gun show, this is the best spot to watch that, rather than downstairs being part of the crowd and not having a decent view. read more
