I was told that the school was started by American veterans after World War II using veterans benefits money. It seems to be a big success. If you are here for a longer time, you might consider signing up for some classes.There are several offices and shops such as a bookstore inside, and in one corner there is a coffee shop that serves breakfast and lunch.

Arresting pieces of public art come into view before you get to the entrance of this former textile factory. Too bad they've been placed rather unphotogenically in the parking lot (Photo 8). They've done an excellent job renovating the buildings and sprucing up the grounds. There are three upmarket components to this expansive complex: art galleries, retail stores, and cafes. It can make for a pleasant browsing experience should you be in the mood for it, but if not, it illustrates a rather polarizing divide between the haves and have-nots in San Miguel de Allende. If you're seriously considering a purchase here, you know which camp you're in. There's certainly enough outdoor furniture and ornate bric-a-brac here to fill your summer home. The only items Jamie W and I bought were a pair of iced coffees and an artful slice of apple pie at Geek & Coffee, a charming terrace cafe on the grounds (Photo 16), a pleasant break before we headed back to town. They sell everything from the titular prints to t-shirts, bags, stickers, magnets and postcards, so there's something for every price point if you aren't in the market for a framed piece. Although most are limited, numbered prints so it's totally worth the investment! Prices are very reasonable for the quality. I pretty much loved everything, and the man maintaining the store was really sweet and accommodating despite us taking ages to pick everything out. (Spoke excellent English too, but it's considerate to make some effort in Spanish!) As of this review the company's site is down, but as an FYI they are willing to ship things, so if you have an idea of what you want but aren't in Mexico just email them. A lot of their work is from Jainite Silvestre so you can check her website/Instagram to know what might be available. They are able to ascertain your level of competence and meet you where you, while encouraging and challenging you to improve. I felt very supported and comfortable. I stayed at a homestay that Luis arranged and it was a great part of the experience too. Luis even can pick you up and return you to the airport in Leon! Guanajuato is a beautiful city, with a rich history and wonderful museums and sights. It was an absolutely wonderful experience and I hope to return.

They also provide tea and coffee which was a nice touch. Because the classrooms are mostly outside it's a very COVId safe place to be. The University of Guanajuato is one of the largest universities in all of Mexico. It has about…read more33,828 students but alas not all of them are based on the one featured in my photographs. The UG as it is known by locales has some 14 schools throughout the state of Guanajuato. This one located in the Centro Historico section is special. It does not need a PE department just take a look a look at all those steps. I counted 83 from bottom to top so not only do you get an education but a serious cardio workout. It was created in 1732 and is a very prestigious University. The UG just stands out wherever you are in the city. We stayed at Hotel De La Paz which was about 200 feet from the steps. Some of the rooms at Hotel Del La Paz have balconies that look out upon those 83 steps. We encountered many students who told us how proud they were of being students at UG and that the faculty at UG was the best. Most were in uniforms which is common in Mexico and they often congregated at cafes and restaurants nearby. Sometimes a group of students would be on the steps working on a study group. We did not take a tour inside but after talking with more than twenty students and one professor it was clear that UG is among the best in Mexico and was super chill to visit.
