I am highly disappointed with the way business is conducted at Edgar Shoe Repair. I initially decided to have my shoes fixed at the shop due to the favorable reviews on Yelp. The shop requires a cash deposit on any work and doesn't accept credit or debit cards; therefore, I paid them in full (for 4 pairs of shoes). I asked when the shoes would be ready and was told "Wednesday." I arrive to pick up my shoes on Thursday, and he hasn't even started them. He tells me he's been busy (aren't we all?) and asks me to come back on Friday. I tell him, no, because I don't live nearby. I had to take the train to get there. Then he says come back in an hour. Again, I tell him I don't live nearby, so he starts working on my order. It takes him about 40 minutes, and he apologizes when the order's finished. While I appreciate that, the service I've received at shoe repair businesses I've used in Manhattan manage their time better, and I've had orders completed within the same day and sometimes the next day. I wanted to support a local Bronx business. I don't mind that Edgar Shoe Repair needs more time, but that needs to be communicated in advance to customers. Don't tell me the job will be finished in 4 days, if 6-7 are needed.
Furthermore, at a quick glance, I thought all the pairs of shoes had been repaired well. I'm sitting at work today, and I look at the top of one of my OTK boots (near the knee) and realize that there is a triangular patch of leather covering a section of my boot that was damaged while they were being repaired. The only thing my boots needed were half soles before they went into the shop, so what the heck happened? I am understanding when people make mistakes, but I am truly angered when they try to cover them up.
Bottom line: I won't be returning. read more
