Governor Blount has taken up residence at Rocky Mount to conduct the business affairs of the new territory. The tour experience invites one to become part of the happenings of the year 1791 through the first person interpretation of daily lifestyles, domestic and work skills, food, clothing, furnishings and games." My husband and I just visited this site, on a whim. It was so interesting, and not at all crowded. They took us through the great room, office, 2 upstairs bedrooms, the dining room, and the kitchen. All of the docents were in costume, and spoke as though they were in that time period. All were very knowledgeable (particularly the gentleman who led the tour through the office and dining room, and the woman who did the tour of the kitchen, and welcomed questions. There is a small museum, a gift shop, and a 15-min or so movie at the beginning of the tour. I will definitely return with my kids when I'm in the area!

The atmosphere is relaxed, educational, informative, and most of all, entertaining for the entire family. The entire staff is knowledgeable about the era, customs, culture, and history of Rocky Mount. I had some questions about spinning wheels and they not only answered them but, they gave me a description of the wheel and its evolution. They had a woman spinning yarn who also explained some of the nuances of spinning. The tours describe the way of life, give demonstrations of that life, and delve into history that shaped those lives. From rope making to candle making, cooking, and the military of the day, there is always something new to behold. Taking a tour inside their museum features some real eye-opening exhibits regarding farm tools, medicine, and hand-made items from buttons and stone arrowheads to the crude woodworking of the late 1700s into the 1800s. The site features the actual Cobb-Massengill home and other original structures. The blacksmith area demonstrates actual metalworking, as does their sheep shearing event, Wooly Day, which is coming up on May 10th, 2025. The annual event is held at the Rocky Mount State Historic Site just outside of Piney Flats, TN. This is just one of the many events they hold throughout the year. We have attended a few of their events including their Harvest Festival and Christmas tours and events. Each event is unique and provides a fresh view of history that pertains to the respective period of the season. In this crazy rushed world, it is a relaxing step back into a simpler and more down-to-earth time. If you're looking for something different to do and at the same time rewarding, you should attend one of the Rocky Mount Museum's events.

First, she was willing to do our engagement pictures at the location of our choice. She is flexible on what types of pictures she'll take and was willing to incorporate our ideas. Katrina even got together a last minute print for our ceremony guest "book." On the day of our wedding, Katrina photographed us the entire day of our wedding and made sure that we weren't concerned about anything. The only thing we kind of wished Katrina would have done during our wedding was to take more charge of organizing people for photos. We also wish she would have taken more initiative in being creative in taking pics of just the 2 of us.
