It's a German version of an American Super Walmart-like grocery/department store (in fact I believe…read morethe term that's used is hypermarket) with large sections of grocery, casual clothing, home supplies and small appliances, and small auto supplies--name-it-and-they-have-it sort of supermarket. Of course, the biggest difference here is there's no sale of firearms nor ammunitions. There are a several independent specialty shops lined up within the building from the entrance/exit doors to cashier's lanes such as butcher/meat & sausages, salad and olives shop, café and such. In fact, you can have some snacks before you start shopping or even after you're done to go...or even as you wait for someone to finish shopping?! Prices seemed to be very reasonable for what you get (at least I felt that way in the food section). There were quite bit of seasonal holiday dessert/gift items (photo) at the time of our visit. Produce section looked very decent, though I wasn't too sure about the price. Bakery section offers very wide variety of freshly baked items as well as factory produced ones (especially gluten free items) . Freezer section may be a little smaller than what you might expect. Of course, they sell lots of variety of beer in front of cashier lanes. The most popular things to do is to buy by a case of 15 bottles. Here, you will pay for deposit for bottles when you buy, and you'll receive credit ticket when you return them at the automated recycle machine before you enter the store. If you looked through the store from end to end, I bet it'll take a few hours to complete it. I'm a type of shopper who usually goes to pick up exact items I need, but even then I'm tempted to look at everything they have for my curiosity takes over. I'm sure novelty will wear off after a while...

This particular chain of supermarkets are somewhat smaller than other ones, and it is considered as a discount store. Therefore, their merchandise is generally cheaper compared to other similar supermarkets. Since this particular one is a smaller store, choice of merchandise is somewhat limited (according to its limited floor space). Also, in general, merchandise they carry are not the same as other more expensive supermarkets do, so I can't really do an apple to apple comparison in terms of price. You get what you pay for...a basic principle of the free-market society... Nonetheless, it's always a great bargain if you can find something you need/want for less. That's what makes shopping at this store worthwhile, I suppose.

This one has two floors: ground floor is for produces, beer and wine, frozen foods, and the meat counter with quick-bite ready-to-eat items (e,g, photo) and sushi packages with some tables and chairs located nearby. Upper floor offers dry foods, household items, toys and appliances. I thought it was very interesting to have some international (?) food sections, especially what they consider as American food items (e.g., photo). Are the Americans really known for our marshmallow, pop tarts and popcorn eating?? There's a flat escalator in the middle of the store making it very convenient for using your shopping cart between the two floors. The cashier is located on the ground floor. As usual, you bring your own shopping bags to place your purchased items. Otherwise, you will have to pay for your bags. I enjoyed shopping here a couple of times while I stayed in Ansbach.

Prices seems very good even compared to some local low-end supermarkets. They have from some fresh packaged beef (small selection), meat snacks to shampoo and lotion. From nice assortment of salami and cheese to canned soups and herring. They have bagged chips to coffee and teas. Especially now since we are getting close to Christmas, there are even some seasonal gift products (chocolates and candies) displayed. It would be interesting to compare what they have during non-holiday months. If you want to enjoy some meat snacks, this is the place to go. You can buy a single-serve pack(s) or buy a whole box. Every purchase is reduced by 2% in discount.

Another popular thing about these butchers is they normally offer cooked meat and sausages for quite casual take-out sandwich-type items. This particular shop weighs meat and charge according to actual weight. My leberkase was 2 euro--it was very reasonable and delicious.
