Their shuttle is only available at select times-- and for select people. The Foundation and 4 different hotels all told me that locally taxis are readily available. Which is a total lie. Spent 2 days trying to get a taxi or transport here. Later hitchhiked with another family member to get the 6 miles back to my hotel. And the one free shuttle Hazelden claims to have today departs 60 mins. after visiting hours start. So, I have to forgo visiting hours and my appt. with his counselor or be forced to pay Hazelden $175 for their shuttle back to the airport. Paid almost a thousand dollars for this 2 day trip to take part in my husband's program. Saw him for a couple of hours yesterday- because I couldn't get a ride from hotel 6 miles away. And today I'll see him for less than hour and miss my only appt with his counselor because their shuttle today is running only at 2pm. This place is NOT client family friendly. I lived in MN and believed Minnesotans were hospitable. How things have changed!

In a matter of moments I was reduced to a state of helplessness from what I imagined to be a hale and hearty, independent individual. I have undertaken the arduous process of returning to at least near "normal" whatever that means I thought that I understood the concept of patience and could differentiate between humiliation and humility. In that regard I was wrong. Recovery is taking much longer than I expected and at first I wrestled with humiliation vs humility. I'd like to think that I will emerge from this a more accepting and humble person. All that aside, this is a review of Courage Kenny Abbott Northwestern (formerly Sister Kenny Institute). Being hospital based, they can take more extreme cases than their Golden Valley counterpart. I think it is safe to say that when I arrived I was a wheelchair bound shadow of my former self. Among other things I had a feeding tube shoved up my nose and into my stomach (uggghhh). And I had a tracheotomy tube that precluded conventional communication (arrgghhh). Suffice it to say that I felt like a virtual train wreck. Never-the-less, the wonderful staff began the task of putting me back together. Not willing to risk omitting key people, I will not name specific individuals. Thanks to their efforts I was able to get rid of my feeding tube (yeah) and eventually return to an unrestricted diet. I also had the trach removed (what a relief) and could begin to talk again. Through collective effort and encouragement, I was able to get out of the wheelchair and walk for stretches with assistance and supervision. I simply cannot say enough good things about the people I met. I had a spacious private room. I was wheeled to a communal dining facility where eventually I was able to eat with relish. Both the Physical and Occupational Therapy spaces were well equipped. Speech Therapy was surprisingly difficult for me. But the PT, OT and Speech Therapists, Doctors , Nurses, PAs, Recreational Therapists and all others were in my estimation, top notch. All-in-all, to me if you are recovering from a serious condition this is an excellent stop on your way. Highly recommended.

My Physical Therapist was Jamie, she was smart, kind and informative. She had a great way with people and helping them understand the process, exercises, stretches and why it is important to pay attention to the details. You do not want to injure yourself, you must listen carefully and follow directions. Jamie was good at learning what you know about your condition /scenario so she can expand on that and not repeat the stuff that you know. These people all show kindness and compassion. People come to them for all kinds of reasons and by looking around the exercise room, you can see that they are true professionals. Highly recommend.

The case worker completely blew off every concern that was addressed by myself and other family members, just super unprofessional. The whole place is a joke and is in the process of being under investigation. They still messed up and were very disrespectful even while people are watching them so I cannot imagine when there's patients with family who don't check up on them. If you care for the well being of your family at all don't send them here.

I viewed every action as though it might be another act of neglect. It took nearly two weeks to feel safe. Through that time, every Aide, Nurse, Therapist, Cleaning Person, and Administrator made it clear they would watch over me, helping me recover my health. Kindness and empathy were the watchwords they showed me. I learned many of their names and histories. I'd been at Benedictine for about three months. In that time, I'd grown to see them as family. They cared for my wounded body and spirit. I was challenged to improve every day. I am grateful that Benedictine chooses to employ those who look at working with people in need as more than just a job. Over time, some had rough days, and I'd try to help them as much as they did me. I made a few friends there that I'll visit as my health improves. Benedictine TCU is a welcoming and a pay it forward facility. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone in need. Kip N.

Rating: "F", for failure to the residents of this community…read more I had personally witnessed the indifference of care and services my mother received for the past 4-1/2 years at the facility. My mother suffered UTI's, ear infections, severe skin conditions, suspicious bruising, falls, and anxiety due to the chaotic and unstable environment. Due to poor infection control and cross contamination while covid, influenza, pneumonia, and norovirus existed in the facility in December 2024 & January 2025, my mother became ill. During these two months she kept saying she didn't feel well even when she tested negative on tests. She had called 911 in late January because she had difficulty breathing. It was discovered at the hospital she had double pneumonia. Two weeks later she passed away. I had a camera set up in her room for the last 7 months of her life. This was after I found a nightgown ripped in half when doing her laundry. I asked her about it and she said someone ripped it off of her. As usual I got a fictitious explanation. There are a multitude of on-going issues, from late and inconsistent meal times, cold unappetizing food, lost menus, inattentive dietary and nursing assistants, brief changes not being done for over 10 hours. The list is unending. Filing numerous grievances with the facility and filing numerous MAARC reports with the State and communications with the Ombudsman caused retaliation from all levels of management and nursing staff. In just a year and a half I had furnished close to 400 documents which included email communications with the facility to the State. Even after providing photos and video clips of evidence and being cited and fined. Nothing had improved. I would like to point out that it's unethical and can be a legal liability for a business and their employees to post reviews. Management should be reflecting on their own part in contributing to the continuous obstacles. It starts at the top not the bottom up. The only justifiable solution is to start putting more effort into figuring out what they're doing that isn't working and to put forth new plans of action in addressing and improving the care, services, safety and infection control processes and procedures and following through with them. Implement a new effective plan on how to monitor employees to ensure they're doing what is required. Installing cameras throughout the facility would help tremendously in identifying and revealing many issues, which had been suggested time and time again. Management is the Beholder of the Dilemma's. Another deeply concerning conflict is the doctor's and social workers are contracted through the facility and seem to have their loyalties towards the facility, not in the interest of the residents. It's not necessary to respond or discuss anything further to this review. Management had their opportunity and sufficient time to prove they were capable in resolving matters and were unable to.
