Best Western Huntsville Inn & Suites - Two Queen Guest Room

I had two completely different experiences here. My first time staying here would have gotten a 5 star and my second experience here would get a 2 star. So, over all I'm giving this hotel a 3 star. I SO BAD wanted to rate this particular Best Western a 5 Star. Unfortunately, I just couldn't. Let's start with the ups about this place. One thing I really enjoyed about staying at this particular Best Western is that the location is great. You're not far from Starbucks, Denny's, IHOP, Yummy Yummy, and Chili's. Of course many other stores are near by including the movie theater. You get pretty much front row parking as the parking lot is next to the rooms. The staff seem to be very nice, but there will be more about that in my next paragraph. You get a good hot breakfast that is included with the stay here. They don't open up for breakfast here until 6:30am. There is a pool, but I've only stayed here during cooler months, so I haven't used the pool as of yet. I did see the guest laundry room, but I've never used it as of yet either. I can't tell you any experiences there. Like I said. My first stay here was spectacular! Nothing was broken, everything worked properly. I never needed to go down to customer service with any complaints my first time staying here. My second time staying here.... Well, my television was not getting cable, my heater did NOT work, my refrigerator didn't work. I mentioned this to the girl working at the front desk one morning at 6am. She was sitting at the desk who had wrapped yourself with a blanket that I was having problems with all of this in my room. She said she would have maintenance look at it and fix it. I had left to work, when I came back, I was so excited thinking that I can actually watch cable tv and have a warm room to sleep in with a working refrigerator. To my disappointment, non of the items were ever fixed. I called to the desk from my room telephone and explained to the other girl at around 5pm. She told me she was going to look into it and talk to the morning shift girl to about it, she said she was going to call me right back. NO CALL BACK AT ALL. I really didn't want to keep pushing this. I don't like confrontation. I feel like after speaking to two staff members about this, something would get done. It was so cold in that room during the night. It reached down to the 30's during the night time, and without any heat. All I could do is just stay under the blankets. It just felt like, nobody cared. I honestly don't think maintenance was ever called on any of the problems going on in my room. I just felt If I had kept pushing the subject to the staff, I would have looked like the bad person for pressuring others on these matters. It's just that my employer offers a free place to stay at their facility, but I chose to pay for a better experience. I chose to give my business to Best Western. I chose to be a loyal customer to the Best Western Brand. And this last stay really was disappointing and sad for me.

When you sit on the bed it sounds like a piece of tin roof blowing in the wind. And they still charge about $130.00 per night. Will not be staying there again.

University Hotel at Sam Houston State University - Double bed room

The University Hotel is located on campus, directly across from the Elliott T. Bowers Stadium. It…read moreis owned and operated by Sam Houston State University. It's unique in that half of the facility is traditional hotel rooms while the other half serves as offices for Criminal Justice faculty -- each floor seems to be split 50/50 (see floorplan photo). The rooms are laid out like traditional hotel rooms, with a large wall-to-wall window overlooking either the stadium or "courtyard", as well as large bathroom with walk-in shower. While the "decor" is modern, it definitely has an "institutional feel" to it, which makes me wonder if the building was formerly a dorm building that was converted into a hotel. For instance, the rooms have two closets and the toilet design is more like that you'd see in a public restroom than a hotel. The HVAC system doesn't seem to have a "heat" or "cool" function, just a weird knob on the wall where you can turn the fan off, high, low or medium. There is a separate thermostat that lets you choose a temp (and just a temp) but I'm not sure it really does anything, as the temp. coming out of the vents didn't seem to change no matter what I set it at. The beds were soft -- maybe too soft for me -- but OK and comfortable. Linens were clean and good quality. The nice big windows had sufficient coverage and black-out shades so I could make the room completely dark if I wanted to. The room was very very very clean. I pulled out the nightstand to plug in my phone and there was not any dust behind it!!. There were too spacious closets in the room, one of which contained extra pillows and linens, a workdesk and chair and a table with two chairs. The room had an oversized mini fridge, tv and microwave. Hot water was ample and quite hot. Water pressure was nice and strong. The only "dislike" was the choice of paint colors -- The walls and doors in the room are painted a flat "dirty mustard" yellow that kind of reminds me of a shade of yellow you'd see in 1970s era decor. Aside from that, the hotel is very quiet and clean. The rooms are well maintained and overall its a comfortable experience. I surmise most of the visitors to the hotel either are there on business (ie: training at the School of Criminal Justice) or parents visiting their kids who attend school there. Another thing to keep in mind, all the staff are students from the university. While they may not be as "professional" as you'd come across at a Hilton or La Quinta, they are extremely friendly and will gladly engage you about things to do on campus or around town.

To go visit your child and stay on campus to be near them and then end up sick as a dog. This place had mold in their windows, then when I called back and spoke to a manager named nick he said it was dirt. I would be embarrassed to even say that and to pass it off as if I am lying. Did you test that dirt and where are the pictures of the clean up then?? I will be taking this higher up because it's bs. As soon as we stepped in that room it was smelly. Then that night as we slept but couldn't sleep due noses feeling tingly and throats starting to hurt we knew something was wrong. Then to be dismissive about it on top of it all just got me.

Now when it comes to the room, the crevice attachment on their vacuum, really needs to be used. The main area of the carpet was relatively clean, but all around the edges was gross. My daughters were utilizing the bathroom to do their make up and hair, so I opted to go sit on the floor in the room in front of the long mirror. Let's just say I got a towel so I can sit on it versus straight on the floor. They also need to add real blackout curtains. There were outdoor lamps that were shining right through our room so we did not get the best sleep. They have these little faux blackout curtains on the side that you can't close. Would I stay here again? If I was in a pickle, yes. For $189 a night I expect check in with welcoming smile and cleanliness.

The accommodation was very comfortable, nice and clean however when I went to closed the drapes, which were not a full set, did not move which really was not a problem but the room was right above the pool and there was a flood light that not only lit up the pool area but shone right into my room. I could have requested another room but I was too exhausted the two nights when I arrived each evening at my room and wasn't really annoyed, just wanted to sleep. I must say that the morning breakfast didn't disappoint, Hopefully on my next visit, the elevator will be in working order and I will get a decent accommodation.

It is in a convenient location right beside I-45 and only minutes away from many stores and businesses in Huntsville. I was on a budget and staying for a week, so having a mini-fridge and microwave and free wifi in my room were a big plus for me and helped me decide where to stay, as many other budget motels in the area didn't have these things. In the complaint column, I do have to say that the hallway outside my room was extremely noisy during sleeping hours, with people coming and going and making noise in the hall at all hours of the night. The doors are heavy and slam loudly unless the person using the door is being careful to close it gently (which most people do not). Because my room was located on the end of the hall, the door to the outside of the building would make gust of air rattle my door, sounding like someone was knocking. There are also train tracks located within hearing distance, so keep this in mind if that's something that might disturb you. So if you are a light sleeper like me, I would highly recommend bringing ear plugs if you stay here. The windows (which were made to open and close) were screwed shut, which was frustrating as I like fresh air at night, regardless of the temperature. SInce I was on a second floor room, I don't see why the windows had to be permanently screwed shut. The wifi was also sometimes erratic, but did work most of the time. But overall this was a nice room at a good price for someone on a budget. The pool was nice and the staff were friendly. Just bring earplugs.
