The cafe is a good size, spacious, good for groups and has a great little play area with toys to keep little ones entertained. The adult menu is pretty simple, breakfasts, sandwiches, burgers, salads and a few other dishes, I had Mac and cheese. The options for kids were great, there is a packed lunch station where for £4.50 you can select 5 items that go in a cardboard box. Or a hot food menu for £5.50 that comes with a drink and yogurt or fruit. My son went for the Mac and cheese too. The food was delicious but both dishes came out lava hot and when you've got a starving child the last thing you want is to have to sit and wait while the food cools down. I also thought the hot kids meals were a little over priced but then it was kind of expected considering this was @bristol. Overall great experience though and I'd recommend this to anyone with kids looking for a good lunch spot in the centre.

Aiming for that (at least for most teachers) impossible goal of making learning fun, it certainly is a fun day out but I'm not sure if too much is learnt there. The exhibits are all interactive, you can pedal to generate power for a T.V. and lift a four foot diameter globe with a very long lever (this is some sort of reference to the ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes, for those that care). This means almost any kid will enjoy themselves here, and you'll see plenty of ten year olds hurtling between each thing, eager to try out everything. The staff are young and keen, and will earnestly explain the science that each exhibit is meant to teach you about. With lots of glass and primary colours it generally feels fresh, something most museums are nothing like. Go there if you've got curious kids to distract, or if you're just a bit of one yourself.

Classy fairylights (yes, they exist) decorated the trees, wooden walkways and external seating areas. The well-cared for pond, seating area and grounds are bathed in mood lighting, and romantic music is played late into the night. Perfect for a spot of dancing away from the crowds. The staff were excellent, and the reception took place in a beautiful room with a ceiling covered in twinkly lights. The food was nice and fairly fast. The only downside was the smaller bar and the short supply of bread rolls. For a smaller wedding (Under 150 guests) this is the perfect, intimate venue. Plus you can hit up W-S-M pier the next day. Which, obviously, is the best way to get rid of a hangover.

There weren't enough towels for 2 people...etc. Just very under staffed. Also the restaurant menu was very limited & not the best food. I came here looking for a potential wedding venue and was bowled over by the beauty of this place. From the farm there are views of rolling hills and a nearby lake and on site there are meadows for camping, fields full of pigs and sheep and plenty of wild flowers scattered about the place. It is simply idyllic. With a car park at the bottom of the centre this place would be ideal to hold an event or simply go on one of the popular walks. The function rooms are of varying sizes and hire of the venue comes with the use of chairs, tables and a large industrial kitchen. Although the buildings are relatively new they have been built using traditional stone so they don't stand out for being too modern. The farm is quite easy to find from Bristol and once you're a mile or so away there are several signs to point you in the right direction. Although popular with walkers and nature lovers the farm does not allow dogs of any kind due to the other animals on site.

The site is on top of the hill overlooking the rolling vast green hills that is chew valley and over looks the stunning chew valley lake. Not only is this a wedding venue it's also a conferencing and education centre as well. And offers tutorials for children and adults giving education on wildlife and related topics. Now let's get to business- WEDDINGS!!! So the set up is can have the venue anything from a few hours to a few days, which provides a perfect chance to do something a bit different, we organised our very own DIY festival wedding. We had the venue Friday to Monday. There are minimal staff insight but you rarely see them, unless you need them. And this gives you the freedom to do what you wish with the grounds, obviously within reason, bearing in mind this is a nature reserve! You can chose from 4 rooms for your ceremony, and either use this room for your meals/ reception or as we did hire a marquee. This I have to say made it for us! There is accommodation for 45 people, which is either basic dorms sleeping 2-4 or small apartments with kitchenette and ensuite bathrooms. They also have a camping field which they tell you holds 15 tents but I think we could have got at least another ten in there. There's loads of indoor and outdoor entertaining space,BBQ areas to chilled out sofa areas. Folly Farm is a perfect wedding venue, I am so pleased we chose it and have had nothing but good feedback from people, other than three days is not long enough, I have to say I agree!

The shows you get to see at the old vic are a far cry from the tacky unoriginal touring shows you get at the Hippodrome. Showcasing its own in house productions you find a lot more edgy and original theatre, so it's a must for all theatre lovers. On this occasion I took my one and half year old son to his first ever theatre production, Magic Elves. The show was in the small theatre downstairs and was perfect for small children and adults alike! He was engaged and mesmerised from the off and I hope this starts a similar love of theatre...

You can also find numerous photographers, website designers, sculptors, architects, a drawing school, a record company. It seems like anybody who is anyone comes a sets up camp at the Paintworks. The website is fantastic and keeps you informed of whats going on at the Paintworks. If you have a free afternoon I recomend going to Bocabar, having a coffee and a little chat with who ever's there and find out what's going on.

Wildfire are the creators of the beautifully produced 0117 annual review of all things original and contemporary in Bristol, featuring designers such as Derek Edwards of Patwa Design, who also rents space at Paintworks (and is who is responsible for introducing me to 0117 - thanks, I owe you!) Tangent Books are a little longer in the tooth. An off-shoot of Faragher and Jones in Bath, they came to Bristol about four years ago, when Richard Jones decided that he wanted an office a little closer to home. Being a resident of Totterdown for many years, it was a no-brainer for Richard to decide to rent space at Paintworks. I really love visiting this peaceful creative haven, just far enough out of the city centre for it to enjoy a calmness all of it's own, but still very easy to get to. I always call into Bocabar for at least a coffee, but if I have time I indulge in a meal. I've been to quite a few events at Paintworks, held in their cavernous rentable space beneath Bocabar.
