But on my birthday August 2023 I treated myself to a reproduction horse statue that I later realised I was way overcharged for, as in, I paid $250 and the item is all over ebay for as low as $30. I won't go back there and gave the item away as I didn't even want to look at it anymore. I had regrets at the time even for paying so much for an item I couldn't afford, but now realising I can't even sell it and get my money back is a real disapointment.

Vancouver's vintage and consignment is already notoriously expensive and caters almost exclusively to a small dress size. Community, a Vintage and Consignment that is run by a non-profit Downtown Eastside housing and resource society not only engages with the neighbourhood it lives in, but also works to diversify its size range to engage with shoppers of many sizes. It hires women from the neighbourhood to work in the business and portions of the proceeds go back into the neighbourhood, which feels great while you shop! The space is small but well utilized and well decorated. Great jewelry by local designers is on display and the clothes have a very consistent and curated turnover rate. And the prices!! Compared to Vancouvers vintage scene, Community is absolutely the fairest price I've found yet. These days even Value Village is getting pricey so to go to a shop where the selection is so well picked out and find something affordable feels great. Again, I'm a plus size shopper who finds an amazing score here 90% of the time. Pieces from Community make up probably 50% of my wardrobe. See you there this weekend!

Great brands like J.Jill and Chico's in my larger sizes, well-prepared and tended. My husband found his very favorite shirt in this store, and wears it at least once a week. Carrie has a great sense of what shoppers want, and she is fair in her policies. When I was there last she was frustrated by not having a day off since she couldn't find responsible help. I sure hope this is worked out, since she is the heart and soul of this place and it wouldn't be the same without her kindness, patience and personal touch. It's surprising how many great finds you can scoop up in such a little place and Bohemia Consignment will be a go-to for treasures on my next visit. Why? One red hat. Now it's not any old hat - the hat in question was a red straw Andre hat, a little hat company out of Montreal that does the most amazing vintage inspired hats. Plus, they fit me like nothing else. Now, Andre hats are hard to find FIRST hand, let alone second and at a discount, so this was like finding a gold unicorn. I think I paid half of the retail price and took home a dress that matched while I was at it... happy camper indeed. It isn't the cheapest consignment shop you'll come across, but they have a good eye for things and it's well curated, so you can be confident that it's worth the slightly heavier price tag.
