The walls are largely bare brick and there are pretty Middle Eastern lamps everywhere. That said, the lighting is a little bright and there's piped Middle Eastern music, so it's not as cosy as the name might suggest. We had the set menu for £18.95 for two, with a bottle of Pinot Grigio. The menu included the mixed vegetarian meze to start, followed by vegetarian moussaka (served with rice and salad) followed by a Turkish coffee and fresh mint tea. The food was good, and portions generous. The bread served with the meze was superb - as was the Kisir (bulgar wheat with fresh herbs and spices) and Cacik (the Turkish take on Tzaziki). The freshness of everything was very evident. Service from one of the waiters was a bit erratic but the other was super friendly and very efficient. The Turkish coffee and mint tea were very good. The bill, including wine and service, came to £35 a head. A nice touch was asking if we were happy with the service charge. Overall, it was a good experience and I'd happily go back.

We started off looking through the impressive cocktail menu - I chose the Mango Jambo which was delicious (although the coconut milk made it very sweet and a little dessert-y, so I ended up drinking most of it after the meal). They have a great selection with a wide range of spirits. The menus are laminated and a lot of the cocktails come in novelty glasses so it's not a classy affair, but great if you're looking for a fun & laid back evening! We ordered a selection of food between us and the portions were very generous. My favourites were the grilled halloumi (although I'm not sure how you can go wrong with this) and the stuffed peppers - they were stuffed with couscous & veg and were surprisingly light. All of the dips were well seasoned an not too oily, a problem I usually find! The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and overall it was a lovely meal.

The interior is a modern, stripped back take on middle eastern decor, but with traditional imported wooden furniture. There's a small seating area the front and a larger area behind the kitchen. The food is familiar Lebanese cuisine with hot and cold mezze for around £5, from which you could construct a satisfying meal, with grilled and roasted meats, fish and stews for the mains. We chose the vegetarian menu for two at £35, which provided a choice of 7 starters, followed by moussaka and rice. We had baklava to finish. It was a great way to introduce my dining companion to this type of food and everything was wonderfully tasty. There's a similar non-vegetarian menu for £35 as well. They're not licensed but you can bring your own wine, and they don't charge corkage. Service was polite and efficient, and they waited until we had finished the starters before bringing the main course, so it felt unhurried. The bright decor means it doesn't really tick the box for a romantic evening, but it is a good choice for groups or families.

Abdullah, the main cook, has good taste in Lebanese music with respect to traditions of Fairouz and Marcel Khalife - and he knows the Beirut pop beats of Nancy Ajram as well. A respectable establishment that I shall frequent from this day onwards. My standards with Lebanese food are high, and Aya has met the very highest in food quality. The only downside is that this outlet of Aya is a small "hole-in-the-wall" concept, and has a few small tables. Better for takeaway.
