I stopped here for lunch at the Apple Blossom Cafe on my way from Lexington to Louisville after finding out about it from a local guide magazine whatnot in my hotel room. I forget what specifically was on my sandwich, as it has been a few weeks, but it was ham and cheese with apple slices on it. DELICIOUS. I spent some time in their country store and picked up an adorable apron ($17) and some apple cider donuts to take with me. Also delicious! Literally bought sunflower field passes and had them scanned at checkout when I first entered. I was denied access by some old man who blocked us from getting off at the sunflowers & who ignored me saying I purchased tickets. I spent 33 dollars to see the sunflowers. He wouldn't even make eye contact with me. I have proof in my email. Another kind employee did apologize and offer a refund though. Fun for the whole family! I just wanted to say that. Haha but really it's fun to run around picking out the best strawbs or whatever fruit is in season. There's an awesome playground for the kids only. The cafe there has really delicious apple pie. The crust is flaky and light and a tad salty. The ice cream is fabulous too. My grandson's eighth birthday party was held at Boyd Orchard. What a beautiful setting! Pumpkins and potted chrysanthemum's were everywhere. There was a wonderful playground with rustic slides, straw bail castles, all sorts of structures to climb up, over, around, and through, and barnyard animals to feed and pet. There was a tractor-pulled hay ride as well as a "train" ride through the orchard. Boyd Orchard has a store that sells pies, jams, honey, many varieties of apples from the orchard, ice cream, and souvenirs. There's also a café. Most of the activities are for ages 3-10. read more

Eckerts has some great products you can't find anywhere else, but lately their prices have gone up an obscene amount. This last time we went there, most prices had doubled! They must not be doing very well. I don't know if we will be back. read more

I took a church youth group here and it was a ton of fun! On the weekends they have a huge play area with slides for kids using woven sacks, a playground, a petting zoo with goats and food you can feed them (for 50 cents), tires you can run in and race each other, a bouncy area, tractor rides out to apple and pumpkin picking, and a corn maze. It's $6.50 for 12 and over and $12.50 for 12 and under for everything included above. They had two types of apples when we went, yellow and red delicious. There were a ton of apples available to pick and we also saw the pumpkin patch. You pay for apples by weight, they had a 99 cents per pound deal when we were there. There are also a ton of refreshments available, like apple cider doughnuts, apple slushies, ice cream cones, and fresh apple cider, all of which weren't too expensive. The store also had samples of apples, salsa, and cider out as well as other items such as bakery mixes, fruit pies, jams, and pasta. Overall, this was a super fun activity for all ages and very affordable. Everyone had a great time and I would definitely come back in the future! read more

Great place for an afternoon outing! There is a large area for the kids to play behind the main store. We took the hay ride to the back of the orchard, and enjoyed the corn maze and some apple picking. Make sure you grab a bag on your way in at the store, so you won't be dropping apples as you are reaching for more apples! The sample donuts were better than what you actually bought, and the tractor ride was so bumpy I thought I was going to go into preterm labor, but their playground was unique, accessible for all ages, and just so creative, and they still offered youpick apples in the orchard, so my son very gleefully got to pick an apple all by himself, which he positively loved. I just love this place. I have been coming here since it was just a small little stand and they only sold slushes. I haven't been by in about 6-7 years and had to stop by. The kind wonderful lady who runs the place competently remembered me. She even said, "I'll get you a large peach slushy because I know that's what you want"! Now that's the kind of mom and pop type of place I love cooing to! I love what they have done to the place. The petting zoo and all. I hope it's not another 6 years before I come back. This was my first time going to the orchard since it was purchased by Eckert's. Almost everything seemed the same. They had more pumpkins that were all kinds of great shapes. They had as much or more produce than I remember. I took a look at the play area and noticed they added more play areas, a camel riding area, and moved the corn maze. It still looks adorable. The staff was very friendly. I think all the prices were the same or maybe lower (my pumpkins seemed cheaper). We went on a weekday for a quick trip, but everyone was on their A game. I noticed Eckert's has other farms, including one with a country restaurant. I wish they would bring a full restaurant out, but I did notice they still have lunch type foods like Boyd's did. I'm excited they are bringing more peaches too. My favorite thing from Boyd's is strawberries, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they handle the strawberry rush! Great trip! read more

From the 25 cent shots of cider to the golden apples, (typically towards the top of the trees) Eckert's - Boyd Orchard provided a warm environment with excellent acoustic music. Checked out Eckert's-Boyd Orchard for the first time this year and was not disappointed! The staff was friendly and we only had to wait a few minutes for a tractor ride out to the picking fields. They offer a ton of activities for children as well. Their store had a great selection of merchandise to shop for! We'll definitely go back again! read more

The extra activities here are designed for families with small children. Not to much to do for tweens. The little market area was cute, lots of apples, pumpkins, honey, etc. But the music set up was terrible. It was okay, but we have been to better farms and orchards. read more

Had a wonderful time with our group at a bonfire this weekend. There were lots of groups there but plenty of space for all the bonfires, and plenty of activities and food to keep everyone content. Used to love coming here, before it was taken over by Eckhart. Brought my daughter today, drove 45 minutes to get here and they charged $18 for her to play on the playground. $12 for her and $6 just for me to go through their gate and sit at a table where I could watch her. I have visited in years past and loved it, however Boyd's Orchard was recently bought out by a chain, Eckerts. The changes due to this made a big difference on my experience. It no longer felt like a fun trip to the local pumpkin patch, rather it felt entirely commercialized and the focus seemed to be on making money. It now costs $1 to ride the hay ride back to the pumpkin patches and apple trees. The sign advertises the ride as "$1 will get you a chance to pick your own pumpkin, sample apples, make lifelong memories and FRESH FARM AIR." This really threw me off, to think that I had to pay $1 to get fresh air...that's when I realized how big of a money trap this place has sadly become. The corn maze is now right behind the main building as opposed to a short walking distance away. I'm not sure why there was a need to move the maze, I always thought the little walk to it was part of the outdoor experience. While the maze seemed to indeed be a lot bigger than years past, it felt much skimpier with less corn aligning the maze and was also filled with trash all along the path. Lastly, my go to purchase at the pumpkin patch is always a caramel apple. They only had caramel apples covered in candy or nuts, no plain ones which was pretty dissapointing. On top of that, they were $6 each, which seems a bit absurd. Needless to say I left with no caramel apple. Overall, I feel like this once local orchard has been taken advantage of in order to drain as much money as possible from each visitor. I come to pumpkin patches to walk through the fields and rows of apple trees, get a little dirty and enjoy the fresh air for ***free***. read more

As a disclaimer, I have not yet been here during pumpkin season which seems to be a big draw and I do plan to check it out this year, so my review is only regarding my experience during the Spring (strawberry picking season). I liked that they had the various play equipment for kids (especially since we didn't have to pay to use it because my son is 2 years old and they don't charge for that age group). The grounds are really nice, and our family loves spending a couple of hours outdoors in gardens, orchards, farms, etc. We came during opening weekend of strawberry picking, and the strawberries as well as the picking experience were just bad. There was only one small area where the pubic was being permitted to pick and it was VERY hard to find decent strawberries in that area. When we've gone to other strawberry patches, we usually end up with a few flats of berries and expected to pick a similar amount here, but spent an hour picking and were only able to get 2 pints. Also, their strawberries didn't taste very good (certainly no better than grocery stores offer and usually I LOVE freshly picked strawberries), were somewhat expensive, and spoiled within 2 days despite being promptly refrigerated. I do plan to come check them out during pumpkin season, but have no interest in returning for strawberries in future years. read more

Let me start by saying what an absolute joke. My wife, son, and myself have come here for the last several years. To my surprise you more than doubled the playground area from $6 for kids to $12.50 per kid. Adults used to be free in the kids play area , (why not, we arent doing anything), but now you're charging $6 per adult so we can watch our own kids? Let's also bring up the fact that we were told our tickets included a corn maze .We asked 8 employees including a manager who all passed the buck, and not one knew where the entrance to your own corn maze was? We will be taking our money elsewhere. Also, I will be telling fellow parents about the changes, as well as my wife who is a teacher in the community. This just equals up to greed plain and simple. The new owner may be a business man, but that does not always equal an honest man. If you want any hope of staying in business, you will adjust your newly unreasonable prices, and train your staff.
