This is a thrift store in a beautiful church on a small dead end street in a tiny town in Ontario…read more The people who volunteer here are joyful and delightful and kind, and they are proud that their work goes to support so many great charities. The store is beautifully organized and all the items on display are clean and quality. Like any thrift store you need to dig and try your luck on different occasions to find treasures, but some places are more fun to try your luck in than others and this is one of my favourites.

I would give it five stars except that today, when I wanted to donate two small boxes of clothes, I was told that they couldn't take them as the side door, where you leave donations, was locked! I visited this store yesterday to purchase two puzzles. I want to start by saying that the sales…read moreassociate who helped me retrieve one of the puzzles was friendly, helpful, and provided excellent service. Unfortunately, my experience at the checkout was the complete opposite. The person at the cash register, who I believe may have been the owner, did not acknowledge me when I approached. For approximately 20 seconds, she continued looking down without making eye contact, saying hello, or even recognizing that I was standing there waiting. When she eventually served me, the entire transaction took place without a single greeting, thank you, or any other interaction. After paying, my puzzles were simply left on the counter without a bag. When I politely asked if I could have one, she visibly rolled her eyes before reluctantly placing my purchases into a bag. Customer service can make or break a shopping experience, and unfortunately this one left me feeling unwelcome and like my business was an inconvenience. As someone who purchases a significant number of puzzles and is actively involved in the local puzzle community, I was disappointed because I had hoped to support a local business. Sadly, I won't be returning. There are many businesses that appreciate their customers and provide friendly, respectful service, and those are the ones I will choose to support in the future.

Forget the big box stores, go to this great little independent boutique. Although the space is…read moresmall, it is crammed full of novelties, toys and childrens items. They have a great selection of puzzles, board games, lego, collectable figures, travel games, brain teasers, models, classic toys and more. They also have some great science learning toys like a salt water/magnesium reaction powered model car. Its a science lesson and a toy at the same time! Anyway thats just one example of that type of item that they stock. The mindless toys are entertaining but your kid will get so much more out of a constructive teaching toy. The staff is super nice and helpful and the store is open Sundays which seems to be a rarity in C-Town. Highly recommended.

When I found out I was pregnant it was time to up the amount of furniture I had in the house…read more Suffice to say I only had a bed, which was how I got into this mess in the first place! I thought I knew what I wanted, and that was to NOT go to Leon's or the Brick despite their low-interest (or no interest) financing options. And I really wanted to try going local. At first Poirier Furniture felt a little intimidating. But we overcame our nervousness of entering a "fancier" furniture store (again, we were avoiding The Brick and Leon's so anything other than that was fancy), and started sitting on random chairs, evaluating them based on comfy-ness, fluffiness and how high the backs were. We were approached by an employee who immediately helped us understand that there were different price ranges, and that we were most welcome to try them all out. Delivery was free, he specified, and they could even hold an item at no charge in their storehouse (which is on the lot). Even though I gave away my interest in a particular couch, they were very good at giving us a discount (my spouse requested a pregnant-lady discount, which they did!) and throwing in the pillows that were used to highlight the couch on the floor. Over-all, I found the little store actually had a wide variety of couches that suited our needs. And in the end, even if we wouldn't have found what we were looking for, the friendly service and the advantage of being locally owned really showed itself. I would recommend checking them out to anyone.
