A day after my Yelp review, finally received a response from both the owner and consultant. Non-response reason given was email going to spam. The owner spoke to me, understood the issues, asked me if she can help change my mind and had an internal review with her team about the issues. She did remove the charge for any "confirmatory" internal meetings by the junior bookkeeper and let me know that the junior bookkeeper used the "incorrect" term in conveying those internal meetings. She changed my point of contact, and sent me another invoice in which I noticed a discrepancy. There was a 2.5hr charge for a call, that I double checked with my cell carrier statement to have been 119 minutes long. Turns out the additional time is for the bookkeeper to review our information prior to calls because they have so many other clients, and then post-call note taking, etc. Naturally, I asked for my billing structure to be changed to fixed, monthly, and she couldn't do so at the moment. So I decided to continue with my termination of the contract. Fixed pricing is the only way to go. FYI - I was contacted by her team to delete or update my initial Yelp review because they included a "Non-Disparagement" clause in all of their service agreements. The clause is supposed to prevent the customer from taking any action that can reasonably be expected to harm ebs reputation. I've since then researched such a clause to be unenforceable with multiple precedents across various US states. read more

Our IT service company has been using ebs Associates for approx 9 months. We switched to them when our old bookkeeper closed the doors to her practice. We mainly work with Emilie and on rare occasions, Mary. Emilie is great! She visits our office weekly and helps with all our bookkeeping needs. She rarely makes mistakes and if I notice something is out of place, she is always very quick to find the fix. EBS Associates is the WORST bookkeeping firm out there! We've worked with several associates that are incompetent and are lousy with their response times. Please do not use their services if you wish to save time and money in the future. I've had to have my CPA clean up their messes on several occasions. I will not be using them again! read more

ebs Associates is the payroll company used by my employer. When I received my W2 this year, my full name, address, wages and Social Security number were all clearly visible through the double windowed envelope the company used. When I reached out to the company, Vicki, who seems to be in charge of that department stated that they send out "hundreds of these yearly" and "no one has ever said anything about their private information showing". She went on to say that their envelopes are security lined...?? I asked how that mattered if all the vital information is showing in the window? Vicki is now non-responsive to emails. Vicki also stated that they'll take my feedback into consideration, but that I can monitor my own credit for identity theft/fraud. ebs Associates refuses to offer a credit monitoring service to me in spite of their blatant and irresponsible negligence. Unless you want your private information shared publicly, don't use ebs. The lack of professionalism and accountability for errors is appalling. read more

It should have been a tip-off: the fact that their email addresses all end with @teachmequickbooks.com. This operation runs a school to teach Quickbooks to aspiring bookkeepers, while simultaneously presenting itself as a professional bookkeeping service capable of handling the needs of a small manufacturing business like ours with 100 product SKUs and roughly 800 wholesale customers nationwide. it is true that the greater Portland area is seriously in need of skilled employees and independent bookkeeping services that have a strong mastery of Quickbooks Enterprise edition for manufacturers. But this group charges too much while falling far short on their promises. They can't even handle itemized billing on their own invoices when they overcharge us, let alone handle our day-to-day bookkeeping needs. "This invoice is unavailable to be viewed right now, but you can still pay us now!" And that is a big improvement from the way they have been billing us -- simply charging our credit card multiple times a month with almost no explanation. Our contact, ###, is a very bright, professional and likable woman, but the people doing our actual work seem to be unskilled students of theirs. We are more than a month behind on our reconciling, our payroll taxes get miscalculated, and after six months of working with these people, we still don't have our supplies inventory linked up to our product inventory builds or our cost of goods sold. We hired them on to straighten out our books from a previous group's messes. That is precisely what they pitched (and generously billed) themselves as being capable of doing. The head person we deal with there in the event of a problem or complaint (which are now nearly constant), is incredibly persuasive at talking the talk, but the minute a complaint comes to her, she will spin it wildly around into something that is 100% our fault, and 0% theirs. She constantly blames our staff for everything. (I stand by my staff, by the way) If things get at all contentious, she is downright rude, condescending and belligerent. No doubt she will respond to this review with some entirely plausible, condescending though apparently "professional" excuse. All I can say is, we consider them a nightmare to work with -- the worst group we have ever worked with, in that when they can't handle what we need (which is nearly always), they actually become insulting and rude and condescending. We would have switched firms a long time ago were it not for the fact that we can't seem to find a great group to switch to that really knows manufacturing. If you have a choice between them and ANYONE ELSE for your bookkeeping service -- choose anyone else. I also can't imagine that they would be a good group to learn any business skills from, despite that appearing to be their main source of income. When my niece came to work for me earlier this year, I needed her to learn Quick Books and basic accounting so that she could help me with the administrative side to my business (I run my business using Quick books). Aside from a basic accounting class in high school, she had no accounting experience and she had not even heard of Quick Books. I sent her to EBS Associates to take their beginning Quick Books class and their basic accounting class. I was really impressed with the knowledge and the support that they gave her. When she had finished the classes and graduated from the programs, she was able to use Quick books on her own and she had a solid basic understanding of accounting principles. Whenever she had any questions, her instructor at EBS Associates was always available to help her through any issues that she encountered.
