My experience with Doug Leoni and Loan Processor, Jennifer Nohrer, was absolutely fantastic. One thing that sticks out to me throughout my experience was the consistent level of communication and support I received from Doug and Jennifer. They were always there to empower me with knowledge, and did so in a timely manner. As a first time home buyer there was a good deal I did not understand, but learned along the way. At one point, I began questioning my own decision making process on the home I would eventually buy. Knowing that I was questioning my decision because of cost led me to call Doug. Doug patiently took the time to walk me through my thoughts and doubts. The conversation was two parts financial advice and one part motivational speech. The discussion made all the difference and put me into a home and neighborhood I love! The conversation helped me to understand that I was going through some first time homebuyer jitters. Doug helped me feel comfortable with the fact that I was doing something big but my thinking about it all was sound. Doug also put me onto a fantastic loan opportunity and ensured I would retain as much cash as possible to put into my home rather than spend it on additional closing costs. Again, the experience and caring about the customer shone thorough as I moved towards the numbers aspect of closing details. Jennifer displayed the same kind of support during the loan processing phase. She patiently got me through documentation signing, information collecting, and preparing for the steps I would want to take after closing. She also took part of a Memorial Day morning to talk through the closing numbers of my loan so I would be well informed ahead of closing. During this conversation she also explained some steps I would want to carry out related to my loan servicer and homestead exemption application. This is a team of people that you can trust and believe in. They'll take great care of you!

When she got back she went to the bank and picked up the check to send to Toyota Financial. Then she saw her due date is in 10 days. She called NFCU and the man said he would extend the date out one month. A few days later her due date on the loan never changed and when she called back she got nothing short of absolutely total rudeness and they said you signed the contract, and if you dont like it then you can withdraw the loan and go through the application process again just to have the due date one month from today. I did my loan through PenFed. Much better service. I asked to have my first payment pushed out a week because my car was being delivered to me and they extended it an additional 4 weeks in less than a minute. The choice is clear who im doing business with from now on, Yes to PenFed, heck no to NFCU.

I needed a cashiers check generated and after I was told to swipe my debit card he didn't say anything. After a good amount of time passed I asked him if he was waiting on something from me. His response was that he was waiting for me to count the money I was depositing. At that point I felt like I had to take charge of the transaction and lead him. I handed him the cash, asked if he still needed my license or could I put it away. ‍ Additionally every time I visit this branch there is a stench in/outside that smells like a sewer. Lastly, when I went to my car I realized I was parked next to a vehicle in which two young children were climbing in/out of an SUV while the adults they were with were preoccupied at the ATM. Initially I thought the adults weren't aware of what the kids were doing however that theory was quickly debunked. The kids were running back/forth between the SUV and the ATM. So to avoid possibly accident hitting the kids with my vehicle I ended up waiting until they left before I could leave also.

My wife and I went through the whole process of filling out all the paperwork to apply for a 2nd Mortgage Loan to see if we can get a better rate than the firm that did our 1st mortgage here for our primary home in Chicago. After we did all the paperwork (which is quite lengthy since it includes copies of this and scans of that), we heard crickets from Jennifer and her team. What we did hear from her were causal texts to my wife saying how she busy she was doing interviews for her local TV program, etc. etc. Then we find out one of her team members contact the other firm to inquire about the interest rate they offered us. We ended up going with our original lender since they sharpened their pencil and came up with a clever way to lower our interest rate with a higher downpayment option. I'm writing this review today since I got an email from her asking for my vote for "The Best of Tampa Bay" in the Mortgage category. Heck no. I've shared my experiences with a few people already to stay away.

When we started the lending process with Jennifer, the numbers were hard to read and when we asked her about it, she read it incorrectly to us and when I came back and asked her about it, she corrected herself. It's hard to think that a VP of mortgage cannot read her own numbers. It made the process difficult for us as first time homeowners because we were unsure of what the numbers really were. Her emails were snarky and she is not someone that I could recommend to any friends or family because of her bad attitude. We finally went to Quicken Loans (now Rocket Mortgage) for our lending and that was a much smoother process and more enjoyable experience for us.

Based on a personal reference, we called Frank Gemma after very frustrating service from our current lender. Our bank was pushing a sale rather than listening to us and helping us select the right course for our short term need for a roof, and long term goal of taking advantage of the low rates. Frank Gemma and his Team walked us through all possible options with patience and personal interaction. Mr. Gemma never made us feel obligated, and was willing to answer questions and discuss our best course over a few weeks before we were comfortable with a specific refi plan. Mr. Gemma's sales approach kept us interested in Caliber. Even with our own good understanding of how the mortgage process works, spending our own money was way, way different! We wanted a trusted advisor first. Frank Gemma provided this even without the prospect of a sale. Frank and his Team helped us feel comfortable with asking questions all the way through the process. Everything seems logical until you see the closing statement for the first time, then you second guess why you even started the process. But, the Gemma Team held our hand the whole way. Our Advice: take time to interview at least 2 banks or lenders anytime you are making a financial decision. All things being equal, focus on customer service and trust that you can ask questions and get honest answers before selecting the bank. Confirm you will get the same service as you walk through the entire process. Frank Gemma's email correspondence included a video of Frank talking to us about our personal needs, what he recommended, and a thorough charting of 3 possible refinance options. What a great interaction tool! The format of the emails was a huge help because we could review at home and detail our next questions. The thoroughness of his emails sold us on his interest in us personally. Throughout the process, Frank Gemma personally visited with us when we did not understand an item his Team was requesting, and he personally walked us through the final closing statement. All service you should expect with home finance, but rarely get. The Gemma Tram was a winner for us.
