Being born and raised in the heart of South Central Los Angeles, I know that Watts doesnt just consist of gangsters and druggies. This community is rich with wonderful people and an interesting history. The founders of this wonderful company are Quentin Drew, and actor/playwright, Lynn Manning. I met Quentin Drew in '03 or '04 during a reading for WVTC. We had a lot in common. Both of us came from South LA and were passionate about theater even though our family was puzzled as to where this passion came from. Quentin past away in 2005 at a young age. However, his vision of the theater company still remains. Watts Village Theater Company prides themselves in producing only brand new plays. The Artistic Director, Guillermo Avilas also comes from South Los Angeles. He along with Teeko Parran work to provide great pieces of theater to the Watts Community and to the rest of LA.

Chica Sexy night)…read more La Boom (Thursdays) is my guilty pleasure night time spot when I don't want to drive all the way to Los Angeles to have a great time. It is a place where I don't have to dress all fly (though many girls do), I don't have to walk around like there is a stick up my ass (though many girls do), and I don't have to wear my high heels (though many girls do). This is a place where my boyfriend and I can just dance like there is no tomorrow. Although there are plenty of chairs and cocktail tables around, we never sit down since we are constantly dancing! There are three rooms, the main dance floor is HUGE!! Probably the size of one bar/club in LA/OC. It plays lots of Reggaeton (which you don't hear much nowadays), punta, salsa, cumbias, cowboy music, and top 40. The second room is much smaller and mainly plays bachata, among other Latin styles.The third room plays rock en espanol (not many frequent this room, I wonder why they don't play a variety of music in this room too!). For this big place, there are three different restroom locations, one on the main floor, one towards the stage, and one in the third room. The smoking patio is towards the back, that space is also big. It looks as if it could be a docking area. I haven't tried the food here, but they do have a full kitchen. The drinks are ok, I just drink beer ($7 a pop). The good thing though, there are drink specials all night (like BOGO), so try to listen for those. So, what do I mean by Chica Sexy night? Around 1230 -1 am, they call up females to get up and the stage and dance, I think first place is $500. Most of the time, they look like strippers because they end show tits and ass. It is funny because when the show starts, you see guys running up to the stage, my boy and I usually go to the second room and dance bachata or whatever they are playing. The parking lot is also huge, only $5. Street parking is also plenty, but it is a shady area, so park at your own risk.

Two times out of the year Pacific Blvd. shuts down and the carnival comes to town and every time…read morethis happens I seem to miss it. This time the outcome was different as I finally attended one of these lovely festivals. I came on a Saturday night to spend a lovely time with my community and take in the atmosphere of everyone coming together and enjoying the fixed games and throwing your trash wherever you please. I won a glass cup for making a quarter inside that same cup! I saw everyone else missing completely but not I - I gloated all the way to the bank. Sadly my egocentric world caught up with me as a few games later I embarrassingly missed the basketball game... airballs all the way. On the plus side, I bought a mood ring for $1! The games all seemed entertaining but a wise person once said to me, "I'm not riding anything that takes an hour to build." All in all, I enjoyed my brief stay at the festival and look forward to the next carnival hopefully by fall 2010.

We also needed a fax and figured what the hey lets ask if they do faxing here and they do! Isn't that awesome!
