Decor is really nice, and you can walk right out to the back balcony also. I have never eaten here, but imagine it would be consistent with the rest of the experience, and I've never seen the place without a diner (normally there are a few). Tucked away in suburbia, Leaf is a an excellent escape from the rush of daily life. In fact I have considered stopping drinking coffee, but have had the issue of wondering what drink I can switch to, in order to ensure I have a reason to stop off here at Leaf.

The food was bland and definitely overpriced for what it was. Wouldn't go with the coffee. The owner gave me a weird vibe when he introduced himself, and later heard him yelling at a young staff member for no reason. We left halfway through the meal, and decided we would not be returning. Me and my wife believe that the enviroment also matters, so seeing the owner go off at a staff member over something unreasonable was not something we considered a good place to dine.

The hardest part is picking one of the many delicious meals on offer. The prices aren't cheap but the food is plentiful, quick and just mouth watering. Many places can't balance the flavours of a bruschetta well - but this place has got it down pat - with a minimal amount of Spanish onions; lots of basil and diced tomatoes; balsamic glaze and several dollops of buffalo mozzarella, served up on olive sourdough. For you keeno breakfast heads, there's an all day breakfast menu, though I'd take full advantage of the "all day" part, as sitting beside this road during rush hour would not be a pleasant experience. Being situated on busy Old Cleveland Road could be seen as a shortcoming, but The Gallery Soho combats the car noise with its urban garden, built into the wooden footpath seating. The car noise can still be a bit intrusive at times throughout the day, but at least you're sitting amidst the greenery, sniffing the delicious smells emanating from the interior of the cafe. I haven't tried the food, but the coffee is good and at $3.50 for a flat white, not badly priced. If you live nearby, wander on down, it's a great spot.

Something needs to be said for the arrogance of the owner, Alberto Alarti…read more 1. The cafe wears his name, which is fine. However, it also has a cartoon portrait of him as the business's logo. This was the first sign that Alberto had tickets on himself. 2. If you look at the business card, the first detail is "Alberto Alarti: Barista". Sure, baristas play a central role in a coffee shop, but I can't be the only one who thinks this is a bit much. Of the cafe business cards I've collected recently, Alberto's Shot is the only one that celebrates the work of one man (who I haven't ever seen work as the barista when I've been there). 3. It takes a certain sort of man to think that when his baristas screw up a coffee order (which is irregular here), he can abuse them in front of all of the customers and think his cafe won't suffer for it. It's not his barista's meagre mistakes that will ruin his business into the ground, it's his behaviour. It makes for an uncomfortable experience. I always want to go and hug the baristas afterwards, pat their hair and tell them it's going to be ok. Outside of this, Alberto's Shot is a good place to come for a caffeine hit (standard flat white/cap/latte is $3.80). The food's not bad either- the servings are huge. It's right down near the river on Cordeaux Street and offers a great place to seek refuge from those searing Brisbane summer days. The seating is predominantly outdoors (only 4 seats inside) which simply forces you to lap up the cool breeze that comes in off the river. Most of their business comes from residents of of Hill End and people going to and fro the ferry. It's best to visit this cafe outside of peak hours to avoid crowds, long waits, and the possibility of seeing Alberto flying off the handle.

Menus were already on the tables and they were trialling table service, which was executed promptly. Coffee was made well and the breakfast was filling, reasonably prices and well presented. I had the vegetarian breakfast of haloumi, tomato and spinach with toast. My partner had the mushrooms and we both had no complaints. A few flies buzzing around was the only frustration, but something that it difficult to avoid at this time of year. I look forward to going back and trying other options.
