Courtney, the stylist I saw at this salon, fried my highlights pretty bad, and left me with an…read moreoverprocessed orange head of hair that she did everything to mask with styling, so that I didn't see all the damage until I restyled my hair at home, which I had to do right away, because she also didn't wash my hair good enough, and left a lot of my brown root color on the back of my neck, I discovered later at home. I called and left a message about my service, and the damage, and Abby, the manager/owner returned my call, and proceeded to say I should be grateful that she didn't charge me as much as a service like this typically costs, to which I said there is a reason for that, and from there Abby proceeded to make countless excuses for Courtney's poor choices and discussed Courtney's mental health issues and anxiety with me, as if that was good reason. Other things that I should have called out at the time but I wanted to enjoy my service and really thought I was in good hands - I had just recently had a Malibu C treatment to remove some of the darker pigments in my hair and the back of my head processed lighter from that treatment, and the back on my head is where Courtney choose to start highlighting my hair first, meaning that it processed faster and she left it on while the front of my head caught up. I also caught her spraying hairspray before curling my hair - I asked what she just sprayed, she said that it would help hold the curl, but you don't do that, especially on compromised hair???? I trusted this person and I told her I have had back experiences before and that it was a big deal for me to trust someone with highlighting my curly hair, and this is what I get for my kindness and faith that I put into her. I was offered to have one of their other stylists (someone the manager referred to as a "good" stylist) fix my orange color, but I was not comfortable going back there and didn't trust I was in good hands. I asked for enough of my money back to go a salon of my choosing and have someone tone my hair, but they refused to accommodate my feelings and treated me as though I was the one that did something wrong.

How have I not reviewed the Cat N Fiddle Salon yet? I can't say enough good things…read more I have been going to this salon since I was a child. Nicci is my stylist and he knows hair like the back of your hand. He is amazing and deals with all sorts of hair types. He can do coloring, styling, up-dos and more. Nothing beats the conversations though. Nicci is so much fun. You won't go wrong if you come here. My entire family comes to the salon. Even though I have moved out of town, I still drive back to Bellingham to get my hair done because the styling is great, the prices are reasonable, and the AVEDA products are ease on the hair. Dani is another excellent stylist here. The stylists at the Cat N Fiddle practically become members of your family. They are so warm and do a great job. The location is also beautiful. There are great views of Fairhaven and the bay. The salon is also beautifully decorated in a historic Fairhaven building. There are always great tunes playing behind the scenes too. Coming to the salon is not only a great experience for your hair, but it is just too much fun! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place!

I was new in town and needed a haircut for a job interview...I couldn't get an appointment anywhere…read more(other Aveda salons). I left a voicemail in a panic and got a call first thing the next morning that Nicci would cut and color my hair that day! So I didn't end up getting that job, but I have become a very satisfied regular customer for the past year. Going to Cat N Fiddle is kind of like going to your favorite coffee house. You get what you expect---EVERY time. These guys have years of experience and traning as well. Other salons come and gone but they have been in this same location for 15 years! I had never met Nicci before that first cut and my hair was grown out and a mess, and I am not a good "talker" but he knew. Then, months later, it became inevitable that my hair was not going to be straight anymore due to the moist climate. He helped me make peace with my curls and taught me about frizz control so it is no longer something I need to think about. The music is always awesome--but varied. So forget how wonderful Nicci and Danny are--the view from the chair is breathtaking!!!! A vacation in itself. Highly Recommend this place!

Tain always makes my teen daughter and me look really good and put together. She's a skilled communicator who is good at interpreting our hopelessly vague instructions. Whenever we make an appointment, we may arrive shaggy, but we always leave with smiles on our faces and struts in our strides. I have absolutely no idea how Tain does her magic. Whenever she's working on me, I just flow along with whatever we're chatting about that day, and then suddenly we're all done and she's pulling the cape off my shoulders, and this wonderful new me is staring back at me when I look into the mirror. (As opposed to me thinking to myself with mild disappointment, "Well, ok. Maybe this'll look better tomorrow after I wash it...") WRT Tain's skills with different types of hair: My hair happens to be middle-aged, European, colored, thinning, and curly. My daughter's hair is half-Asian, uncommonly thick, and straight. Tain does a great job with both of our hair textures. Tain's prices are extremely reasonable (i.e., you would pay a lot more for her services if she were based in Seattle). So, tip well if you can :) Tain is a pretty busy lady, so have a little patience when booking appointments -- you probably won't hear back from her for a few hours or days. But she's definitely worth the wait if you're able to work with her flexibly. Now that I've posted this review, I hope more people discover Tain's salon. True, it will be harder for us to get appointments in the future. But, hey, we're willing to make sacrifices to support an artist :)
