This excellent council run state of the art leisure centre boasts one (sorry, two!) of the best pools in the city. The main pool boasts six lanes and is even overseen by a spectator gallery which is used during competitions. There is also a smaller learner pool complete with a flume which snakes down into it (alas I've never worked up the bottle to ask to have a go!). One word of warning, on two occasions I've turned up only to be refused entry due to the timetable being changed without any warning (there was no apology either - they just seemed to think I was a bit weird for reading the timetable online and assuming it was correct!). Elsewhere there's a gym and fitness classes (I've not used either though have heard good things about the circuit training class), and a decent sized hall which you can hire by the hour for badminton and 5-a-side. Run and funded by the council, Easton Leisure Centre is a good, well-kept and clean space with plenty of activities on offer. The swimming pool is large and as good as you'll get for a swim. It doesn't cost much either. There's also gym facilities and a range of fitness classes. Make sure you check times (even phoning if necessary - although my one major complaint would revolve around the fact that I have tried to phone and find out about swim times only for my calls to remain unanswered). Regrettably the website isn't very regularly updated so it's a good idea to check. The Easton location isn't exactly wildly accessible for a lot of people. If you're a cardriver there's a large amount of parking outside but for those of us who aren't, the nearest reliable transport service is Lawrence Hill train station although even then you have to snake under the quite circuitous underpass in order to get to the other side. Overall it's a good leisure centre, I just wish it wasn't so heartbreaking to be turned away when I've travelled for miles because the staff don't answer the phone and the website is out of date! read more

I used to take my baby swimming here when we lived in Bristol. It's a great pool - very clean and up to date. The adult pool is alongside the learner pool so, if there are a few of you, it's easy to leave one adult in charge of the kids while the other goes off to swim a few lengths! The water is usually warm in the learner pool and the slide looks great fun, although sadly my baby was not old enough to go on it by the time we moved away. The changing facilities are clean and in a good state of repair. My only complaint is that they would sometimes close the pool with no notice - I appreciate that this is sometimes unavoidable, but it's best to ring ahead before making the journey, just incase! I agree that the showers are not great but they're OK to rinse off under before having a proper shower at home. read more

The leisure centre offers a large swimming pool with a range of programmes - ladies only, swimming lessons, clubs, lane swim and aquaerobics. There is also a learner pool for small children with a water slide. The pools have a well structured timetable and it's best to phone first for availability rather than just turning up on spec for a dip. There have been recent problems with the poolside showers due to problems with boilers and water pressure. This however, is being fixed as I write. The air conditioned gymn offers the usual weight training and cardio vascular fitness machines and is a well designed and accessible area; less of a gymn for posing and more for working out. Badminton, basketball and five aside football is offered in the large sports hall and other activities include yoga, judo, karate and aerobics. There is also a crèche, soft play adventure area for kids and a large reception / vending refreshment area. read more

From the outside it looks dingy and uninviting; this is by no means a reflection of what's inside. There's a big pool, a baby pool and a slide. There are other facilities available; a gym; sports hall and a creche. The swimming pool is what we visit the most - there is a range of sessions to suit everyones needs. The larger pool offers lanes for people to swim as well as an area of free play. The baby pool is warm enough to stay in for quite a while with any small child. The changing rooms are open plan and right next to the pool so it is never far to walk to get dried off when you get out - a big plus when you have small children in tow. The large reception area boasts somewhere to sit and have a drink, most useful when you are trying to calm excitable children down before swimming and to refresh them after. read more

I was quite surprised when I read the good reviews, less surprised when I saw that they were quite old... The place is cheap when compared to other gyms, but the pool is the dirtiest I have ever seen. The reason? In this location, there is no such thing as a "no shoe zone" or a foot bath at any point when you are approaching the pool, which means that you find parents waiting for their kids just by the pool with shoes, baby chairs or bikes. Finding rubbish or mud on the floor on your way between the changing room and the pool is therefore not an uncommon experience. Finding tissues floating in the main pool is also a possibility. read more

After using this leisure centre off and on for the last few years I have mixed feelings about it. There have been several waves of re-fits that have generally improved the internal condition and facilities. But there seem to be on-going problems that have lasted for years that don't get resolved. After a big overhaul of the swimming pool roughly 5 - 6 years ago a chronic problem arose with the showers. There was no water pressure and about one shower out of ten would work. Not so hot when there's ten of you. As of the middle of this year when I last went this problem was still the same. I also find there is not enough lane swimming times available and it is even worse now that the after work sessions have gone. It sounds minor but another big problem is people swimming way too slow in the medium lane. This makes me laugh as I type this because I sound like such a crank but it really is a bone of contention for all swimmers I speak to who use the pool. Slow swimmers go into the one medium lane, which pushes medium swimmers into the fast lanes. They know they are slowing down the fast swimmers but what can they do?! Personally I'd like some more intervention from the staff, who might guide people into more appropriate lanes. read more

Nice to support as it's a good local resource and the staff are super nice. However, the gym is ridiculously hot - the air con barely works, and the exercise class tutors never seem to know how to use the air con in the rooms, either. read more

Haven't been in ages to swim and was shocked at how filthy, wee-smelling and full of incompetent and rude staff it is. The ladies only swim session is so busy they've had to split it into shorter sessions so you race into the pool, try to find space to swim length, then get literally screamed at to get out quick 45 minutes later. Not relaxing! Back to Keynsham leisure centre for me. read more

A nice sized pool, but the baby pool never seems to be open despite checking the website and the number you call just gives an automated message. Staff on reception have been quite rude a couple of times, so we won't bother going back again. It's also a bit on the dirty side the last couple of times I've been and the baby pool has been a little bit cold. I would say there are a lot better run council pools than this one. read more
