I had a mixed experience with this tree service…read more The good: The crew who came out did a careful job cutting down a large tree close to a building. They worked safely and avoided any property damage. On the technical side of things, I was satisfied. The bad: The quoting and scheduling process was very disappointing. The estimator visited my property (without me present) and provided a quote after walking the site. A month later, when the scheduled workday came, the technician suddenly said he couldn't honor the quote. He claimed I had poured a new cement driveway since the quote, which was simply not true -- the driveway had been there all along. He explained that using their truck might damage the driveway, so the tree would need to be climbed and removed a different way. That's fine, but the $800 price increase should have been acknowledged as their mistake, not blamed on me. I even offered to meet halfway, but he refused and insisted on the full amount. With no other option, I agreed just to get the tree down. Bottom line: the tree was removed safely, but the lack of accountability and the last-minute upcharge left a very bad impression. And secondly--and most important--Sharper Image ACTUALLY care about customers being happy with their services. I hired Sharper Image to dig up 4 trees which despite ArborCare services were in decline due to very poor soil and drainage conditions. The trees were dug up, to enlarge holes and berm them higher so that roots sat above wet spots and had more and better quality soil in which to expand. About a week following this service, the Delmarva area was hit with heavy rain. When the rain subsided, 3 of the 4 trees were fine, but one had sunk down to its original grade, likely because the soils had not been adequately compacted prior to backfilling. I took photos of all 4 trees and sent them to Sharper Image with a request they remedy the situation without any additional cost to me. To my very pleasant surprise co-owner, Keith, said: "No problem. I'll send the guys back out to fix it." And he did. No fuss. No haggling. Just doing the right thing. The workers came back, dug up that tree again, added more soil, used a hand tamping tool to compact soil before replanting the tree. I could not have asked for more. So.... if any homeowners out there have need for similar service, then Sharper Image is your firm. With Sharper Image "customer satisfaction" isn't just a catchy marketing slogan.
