When I say 'experience', I mean my flatmates and I practically drunk them dry in our first year at university. We would often make plans to go into town and stop here for 'a drink' on the way. We rarely made it into town, because one drink inevitably turns into five in this place! What's great about East Slope is its dirt cheap and the staff are students themselves and hence pretty laid back. My flatmates and I went through a phase of drinking White Russians here and they made them so well- we even used to pop home and get our own milk when they ran out! Good times. I randomly stopped in for a drink recently and the memories came flooding back. There's nothing that special about the decor, but that's the way it should be- it's a functional establishment, designed to help students stumble drunkenly and joyously through their first year at uni. They often put on gigs and open mic nights for the musically inclined. In my mind East Slope is the social centre of the student community on campus. Enjoy the cheap drinks while you can folks!

It has one main room with about twenty tables and benches so it has a little bit of fishbowl atmosphere-everyone looking at everyone and eavesdropping- but that's quite nice and neighbourly! The bar staff are very friendly and the prices are reasonable. In the winter they have a small wood fire in one corner that makes a certain table the best spot in the house! They serve really decent pub meals that actually do have a touch of the gastropub- fresh pasta, homemade pie, fresh fish... but at very good prices. There is a back room that you can sit and eat it and that has a tv although it is not really a sport pub. On sunny days there is a terrace overlooking Blaker's Park- very lovely on a warm day with a pint!

It's proximity to the main campus thoroughfare makes it an incredibly easy place to wander into after a hard day at the books. Perhaps a little too easy, if memory serves! It's also an ideal place to meet friends for lunch and is also a convenient place to refuel if you're a visitor to the university, as its close to all of the Arts teaching buildings. In the summer, you'll find hoards of students gathered out on the patio and grassy bank outside, sipping on their incredibly cheap drinks whilst soaking up the sun. The food is also reasonably priced, as its a Student Union bar, and is pretty tasty (campus dining is never gourmet). We're talking paninis, jacket potatoes, the usual campus delights! In my opinion Falmer bar is a fine place to eat and drink in between lectures, but come the evening, it lacks the atmosphere and energy of East Slope- you'll have to head further in to campus for the real fun!!

One of the better points is that everyday at Falmer Bar brings with it a particular offer, ranging from 'Burger and a pint' to curry evening. While these offers are hardly original creations of the geniuses behind Falmer Bar, they do provide a good deal to us poor students. The quality of the food is also very good, certainly by student pub standards. Also, for those who love a bit of retro gaming, you'll find a super nes hanging out in the corner, complete with Street Fighter.

After a winning streak of good dining experiences in Brighton, thanks to places found on Yelp or…read moresuggested by other yelpers, on our last day we decided to start wandering around the town and try our luck with a place we'd never heard before. We stumbled upon this place totally by accident, and to be honest with you, from the outside it looks like a pretentious fancy pub, with fancy décor and not an awful lot of good food. Well, the place HAS fancy décor, It's kind of flashy and I would usually avoid such place. But what the hell. We were seated on the balcony upstairs, we had a view of the isle-bar serving smoking cocktails (literally smoking, by the way) and I thought I had better order something hard to mess up, just in case my prejudice is right and food there wasn't going to be all that much. So we ordered a baked Camembert, a cheese board (what do you mean that's too much cheese? Sorry, can't hear you over the sound of this Stilton feasting in my mouth), and the only burger in the menu. I'm going to say it now: that was THE best burger I've had in the UK, and second best only to one I've had abroad. The bun was perfect: soft with crunchy-from-grilling edges, the cheese was melted AS IT SHOULD BE, the patty thick and juicy, it didn't fall apart despite the amount of goodness in it so I could use my hands like I'm meant to. The burger alone wins half of the stars I'm giving this place, the other half being the amazingly friendly staff, and quick and prompt service. The MINUTE I am back in Brighton, there's another one of those burgers with my name on it. Seriously, go have that burger.

The decor is pure class, funky and modern and so much to see. There are lots of different levels and seating areas, each with a different feel. The place attracts a good mix of people, but all pretty high standard. I think the evening has a smart dress code of no trainers or scruffy jeans. The music is brilliant. A complete mix of music jumping all over the decades. There is a big screen showing the videos too which can be quite entertaining. There is a massive bar in the middle of the bottom floor, so easy to get too. The only thing is it slightly dominates people at the bar and less dance space. Get there early if going on a Saturday night as it always gets packed and turns into a one in one out queue. The venue is only small, but makes a good atmosphere because of it. People will start to think I am obsessed with toilets in my reviews, but this has the best women's toilets I've seen in Brighton. Go have a look! I also ate a cooked breakfast here on a Sunday lunchtime and it was top notch. I expected it to be expensive but it wasn't. And to eat in such lush surroundings with very polite and smart staff made me feel like I was in a classy restaurant. Go and check it out if you get a chance is my advice.

It looks trendy, rather than run-down, with a rustic (rather than ruined) vibe. The bar is usually rammed, but which good club doesn't have a rammed bar, right? The range of music that's performed here is great! They constantly have great acts lined up and host a good variety of older and newer bands. You get the feeling that people come here for the music and not, like other reviewers have highlighted, just for a pull, a pint or a puke! It's a club, yes, but there seems to be a slightly different atmosphere here to some of the other clubs around town. The gigs are tickets and they charge you for entry, but they also just do general dance nights where you can come in for free, which is always good! The location is a little bit odd... It's very 'terrifying, abandoned building' and so if you don't know where you're going you might be tempted not to venture down it's way. That being said, it's well lit and there are always people milling around outside the place when it's open so, in that respect, it's a-okay! If you like to dance, listen to good music or simply hang out in a buzzing venue, try this place out! It might just be your new favourite place!

Located on the fringes of Hassocks and overlooking a beautiful stretch of Sussex countryside (great for a post Sunday roast walk to preserve the waistline!), the pub has the advantage of space that Brighton establishments sometimes lack. You would be hard pressed not to find a parking space and the same applies to seating within. The pub provides a cozy bar including a pool table if you fancy stopping by for a swift pint, the 'Keymer' bar for a more relaxed beverage and a large, yet homely dining area if you have come to eat. I will come back to the food in a minute. In the summer, the expansive secluded garden is perfect for children to bomb about, or for those summer nights when the weather is pleasant (of course, a bit hit and miss in this country!). The menu is wide ranging (check the website for a current list of dishes) and offers traditional, quality pub food. A lot of the produce is locally sourced and cooked to order. Sometimes this does mean that you wait a little longer for your meal, but the wait is worth it in such a nice environment. This is a great pub to consider for a Sunday roast, especially if you live in Brighton and have access to a car. They will happily take bookings and also cater for private parties in the dining area. I would have liked to see a wider range of ales on tap, but they do try and keep a local brew or two in rotation. Aside from that, expect your regular range of alcoholic tipples on offer. Many moons ago, in my youth we used to walk to the Thatched from Burgess Hill for our Friday drinking sessions and I would still make that walk! I guess the one negative is the location if you are without transport, but if you do make the pilgrimage from the station, I believe you will be glad that you did.
