Some say this school is just like a public school plus Jesus. Others say it's worse. I am part of…read morethe few who say it is better. I went to Bishop Carroll. I also went to public school. I can say from both experience and objective reality that Bishop Carroll is better than any public high school in the Wichita school district. This is not to say it is perfect. There are gangs, teen pregnancies, and an underground drug ring, as there are in all high schools of a reasonable size. But when I compare this reality to that of other high schools, you cannot deny the advantage that Bishop Carroll has. Sports are the main calling for the school. But in recent years, less focus has been placed on sports than ever before. For once, the music and theatre departments are being heard. This has been the trend for the past decade within the school. The abundance of other groups, activities, and clubs are evidence of this shifting focus. These groups are tightly knit. One review claimed that around 45% of the students are blatantly atheist. I'm going to reduce that to a good 5%. 20% are fervent Catholic. 55% are lukewarm Catholic. 15% are indifferent. The last 5% are of other faiths, either other Christian denominations or other religions. Let this be made clear. The current generation in the school are part of Gen Z. So far, this generation of classes has proven to be more strong, logical, and much less prone to the degenerate behaviors that the previous recent grads of millennials engaged in. Being on the cusp of both generations, I can make this comparison rationally. Truth is, as with most schools, the individual perspectives vary to extremely high degrees. For this reason, I look at things objectively. As for my personal take: This school kept me from shifting to political extremes. It opened doors in my mind that wouldn't be possible in a non-spiritual school. It saved my mind from being destroyed, it let it stay open to new things, it taught values that are not easy to get in the fragile high school years, and it caused me to see God in the damaged reputation that my own class was in. There were days when I'd walk through the halls and see light in everyone's eyes, even those who seemed to be the worst of people. I could not say the same for the other schools I have been to or known of. The only complaints are that finance classes should be mandatory, and that they need to just build an actual auditorium already. That's all.
