He was so knowledgeable about Pollock and Krasner's life and the art scene in which they lived during their time. The tour includes a look inside Pollock's studio, which is breathtaking as well as a tour of their home. The property is so tranquil and peaceful as well might I add. It's a smaller and much quieter alternative to neighboring options, but still has everything you could want for the perfect beach day. Bathrooms? Check. Showers? Check. Food and beverage stand with a variety of options? Check. Short walk to the beach? Check. Everyone mostly behaves on this beach, which I appreciate. It's definitely not a "Hamptons party beach" (if you're looking for that vibe, Hot Dog beach would be my pick, where the surfer bros like to hang. It's worth noting that the bathrooms at Tiana don't open until the last week of June, so if you're coming here for the day before then you may have to brave the port-a-potty. Also, if you see a seal on the beach here, leave it alone or face a fine. That said, they're so fun to spot -- promise my seal photos are taken from a far distance with a zoomed in camera.

It's exactly what it sounds like--a giant white duck on the side of the road. There are restrooms, a small parking lot, and a gift shop inside the duck with plenty of duck-themed souvenirs. The employee was knowledgeable about the history and shared interesting facts while we looked around. We snapped a few pictures and continued on our way. I wouldn't plan a trip just to see it, but if you're already headed that way, it's a fun stop for some silly photos and a chance to stretch your legs.

Then park and walk well over a mile down the sand bar to the light. We had a ferry to catch, so didn't make the trek. From land, it's hard to see the light. It's not the quintessential tall tube - it's a 3 or 4 story granite square building. The view from the park itself is nice. Beautiful view of Sag Harbor and the sandbar extending out into the bay. You can also see Ram Island and the North Fork in the distance.

A very lonely…read morelight Cedar island Lighthouse is a very lonely light that is difficult to find and even see. It was built in 1860 and is about 40 feet high and once had a 6th order Fresnel lens. It has a Victorian style that is similar to other lighthouses of the period such as Execution Rock but has some subtle differences. It's made of huge blocks of granite that came from from Fall River Ma but I'm not sure who the architect was. The light gives an immediate impression of strength and massiveness and has survived a lot, including powerful hurricanes, nor easters and mindless vandels intent on burning it down. The light was once on a island about 200 meters from shore but the 1938 hurricane ripped this area apart and ended up filling in the breach with sand so you can actually walk right up to the lighthouse. You cannot go in and there are no gift shops or snack bars nearby. Nothing but the sea, wind and the empty lighthouse guarding memories. Perhaps the isolation is what makes in so popular for the idiots intent on vandalizing and destroying the great old lighthouse. Reaching the light is not easy, you have to park in Cedar Point Park and then walk for about a mile and a half along the very rocky shore to find the light. Not a good place to go during bad storms because on occasion the area can be flooded and you will get trapped and probably drown. Of course you can kayak out to the light but the area has some fierce rips and tides and the wind frequent tears through the area so that can be a dangerous option also. Cedar Island is a great and unique lighthouse in a fantastic, wild and pristine place. Not many people take the time and effort to find it but if you like lighthouses and rugged walks along the shore this is a delight. I have been hearing that the town of East Hampton is trying to raise money to restore and preserve the lighthouse. Considering all this lighthouse has been through it deserves a peaceful retirement.

In its final year, the Hayground Windmill was the last functional windmill on all of Long Island. After temporarily functioning as a tearoom, this windmill became the home and studio of artist, Agnes Pelton. Hayground Windmill was then moved by ox-cart to its present location as part of the Dowling estate in 1950 and declared a National Historic Building in 1978. We found this windmill with scaffolding, so it wasn't easy to photograph it, but ... what was really interesting to me is that when we drove right up to the gated estate where this windmill sits, the gate automatically opened. I felt kind of strange driving right onto private property, but actually, we had to do so in order to turn our car around. We stopped long enough to photograph the scaffolded windmill and then drove off. We didn't want to overstay our welcome... if, in fact, we were even welcome. But the gates opened up for us, sooooooooooo...

It's a good place for fishing, boating and there are lots of restaurants and bars in the area. Besides that, there is some beautiful secenery and a great place to take pictures.

It is in very good condition with only a little bit of peeling paint around the edges. The marker reads, "According to local legend, Postmaster General Benjamin Franklin set milestones in 1755 that park the Post Road from here to Riverhead." And yes, Riverhead is 30 miles from here. The Pomeroy Foundation has more information. "The legend has its origins in a journal entry from a 19th century local historian named Augustus Griffin. A resident of Orient, NY in the 1850s, he recorded a local story that Benjamin Franklin visited North Fork in 1755 to take a ferry to New London for the purpose of visiting his mother. Supposedly, on the way he used a special odometer to measure the road to Southold where he stayed at the inn of Augustus Griffin's grandfather before travelling on towards New London. Interestingly, no mention of road markers or Benjamin Franklin's role as joint postmaster for the British Crown were mentioned. This became the basis of the idea that Benjamin Franklin himself not only measured the road but installed the mile markers." The website does a fact check that basically prove that there's no way Ben Franklin did it but does provide the actual origin of "the only complete set of mile stones in the northeast, making them historic in their own right."
