This is a medium-sized park with gardens, a gazebo, a trail down to the ocean, playground, picnic…read moretables, BBQ's, firepit and a kitchen shelter. Big lawn for relaxing or get togethers. My friend and I walked around to enjoy the flowers and take a walk to the beach. I was not fit for the trek down to the beach though, so my friend went and reported it's really beautiful. There were swallows flying at a crazy fast speed and zooming around us. Felt like Snow White. There are bathrooms here that are the standard expected for a park, but the one I was in didn't have a light at all so I'd avoid it after dark.

There's a couple bathrooms and some picnic tables. We enjoyed the stop (15 mins) but it wasn't a lot to see/do, more if you have a boat!

I have said before I don't think all Washington state parks are always "created equal" meaning they…read morearen't always the destinations you think they are while others very much are worthy of a visit. I suppose it depends what your purpose is here as there is a boat ramp for you to use but as far as something being really unique I don't quite see it. There is some decent views here of the water which are nice however the pier that usually seems available to walk on was closed. It stated on a sign that it was closed due to an emergency of some sort so perhaps something structurally is wrong with it. Anyway Mystery Bay just ended up being a whistle stop for us and we continued our way back to Port Townsend after a great visit at Fort Flagler State Park.

Fort Worden is the quintessential WSP (Washington State Parks) experience. Set on an old military…read morefort, it features historic buildings, batteries, beaches, outdoor spaces, trails, and campgrounds for visitors of all ages. I hadn't been here in decades, but recently visited for a few fun days of glamping in the ol' RV. Sadly, despite securing a coveted campsite reservation 9 months ahead, we weren't able to book at the uber-appealing beachside campground; but we found the upper forest campground area just fine. The park itself is vast, clean, and well-staffed. It would be great for a day visit of exploring the beaches; but was also fun for a multi-day visit where we were able to ride our bikes around the park (and also, once, all the way to town!). We also enjoyed beers a couple of times at their on-site restaurant, Taps at the Guardhouse. And ate lunch along the water another day at their casual burger joint. If you're camping, they only take reservations (no walk-ins), and as long as you keep your camping receipt visible in your car, you don't need a Discover Pass during your visit. If visiting for the day, however, a Discover Pass is required. There's plenty of parking, and lots to do (including visiting a beautiful lighthouse). For less crowded beaches, their north beach area was a fun treat. We'll definitely be looking to book campsites at Fort Worden again!

We came here with a relative who recently moved here and it was wonderful to walk around and talk along the beach... visit and catch up as we strolled up towards the lighthouse. It is spring so it was windy and a bit cold but with enough layers we were pretty comfortable on our short walk. Such a beautiful state park and definitely a "must" to visit while in Port Townsend!

I think I was a small child the last time I visited Fort Flagler, so I don't remember much. It was…read moregreat to come back and experience again as an adult. Campsites go quickly at this place, especially in the coveted Lower Campground, which is so close to the beach there are tsunami warning signs throughout. The sites are large here, and although tents are allowed, they are most coveted by the RV crowd as all sites have power, water, and sewer hookups. (We also drove through the more rustic Upper Campground, which sits high on the bluff and is more sheltered. There were plenty of tents here, but weren't RV friendly except for the smallest units.) We spent three nights total, spending most of our time at the park enjoying the beach, bike trails, and (of course) the many historic gun batteries that protected the Strait during WWI and WWII. It's also about a 35 minute drive from Port Townsend, home to cute shops and restaurants. Reservations are a must if you want to camp at Fort Flagler. You can make them exactly 9 months ahead and they do fill up quickly.

I haven't ever been to Marrowstone Island before until quite recently and it was a great trip! The…read moremain purpose was to go to Fort Flagler and look at the fort remains and take in the scenic views which there was plenty of! The state park is also a retreat and there is quite a set up for anyone signing up for that and I can see why as the whole area is so peaceful and tranquil. The fort itself is quite a bit smaller as far as seeing structures go compared to Fort Casey on Whidby Island but this state park and it's history has it's own personality and charm. In some ways I like Fort Flagler better as far as peace and quiet goes as Fort Casey can get very crazy with visitors. The walking paths are quite manageable to take in the different batteries or what makes up Battery Row but they are dirt paths so if you go in the winter or spring be prepared for mud. Our Discovery State Park Pass came in handy for this stop and felt like it was put to good use for visiting this particular state park!

Seeing the artwork and easy link to via the QR codes to the biography of the artist made it all the more interesting. It is a 40 minute bicycle ride the Ferry land to/from Port Townsend. Easy trip by car.

It was a nice walk down to our seemingly private beach. It is a sand beach, perhaps a couple of miles long! We chose Kala Point village as it is dog friendly - the dogs we saw were very nice along with their nice people.

The ferries to Seattle and Woodinville are about an hour's drive. The drives to the trailheads were 45 minutes to an hour. Well worth it for a day of hiking in the National Park. Location gets 100%. The condo furnishings are a bit tired, but the place is clean and the pool and jacuzzi well maintained. We would stay here again for the beautiful surroundings and convenient location

Every year I try to come here in the spring and stay in the retreat house for a few nights. It has…read morebecome a special thing for me to do, and I even drive here from Oregon to do it. The retreat house itself is perfect for those doing meditation and Buddhist practices. Every day I can walk in the woods, to the pond, and visit all the special places here, like the driftwood ley line sculpture or the fen pond. Every year things are a little different and there are new things to see and explore in addition to visiting "old friends" like the various stone circles. You can also come just for a brief walk or long walk, there are multiple parking lots. I recommend a change of shoes and socks if your footwear is not water proof.

Plan. Plan. Plan…read more The Earth Sanctuary is a fantastic retreat of walking paths, stone circles, places to sit, think, draw, meditate, remember, and much more. It's only $7 to spend as much daylight as you want while there. You can power walk your way through, but you'll miss the nature and time for self-reflection and teachable moments. Decide why you are going there, even if it is your first exploration. You could spend a whole day by the water writing, drawing, and doing things that fill your soul. Plan to do that. If you have younglings, decide what teaching about Nature you'd like to do. The trails are natural, and this is a place to take it slow for those with mobility challenges. I strongly suggest developing a theme of why you are going and using that as a guideline for a great day. There are porta potties by the parking sites. Bring your water and snacks if you must, but mind the wildlife who get sick from your leaving. A rule of thumb is to take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints.

Like all camping you have to make weekend reservations very far in advance, but I have had some success with setting an alert for the weekend I want to go. Prices do seem to be increasing making camping seem unaffordable to many. They do have free showers and a centrally located bathroom. Extra cars are 10$ a night, discover passes do not cover this. We usually go with friends and get 2 sites, they all seem very close to each other and don't offer a ton of privacy, but the closeness allows a little in our group to have fun circling the campground road on her bike/scooter. She also enjoys her time playing on the beach and in the woods. In the right season there are lots of berries to be found as well. We usually camp with dogs who also seem to enjoy the trip. There are lots of hiking trails that all intersect each other, it can be disorienting so you may want a map. I really enjoy the plant life here and always see interesting things I don't see other places. There is a new interpretive trail with some fun signage to make the walk even more enjoyable. If you are not camping this also just a nice stop off with your discover pass. Seems people get married here on a cliff above the water as well. It's nice to look out at the mountains and experience the beach at both high and low tide.
